Question

I'm highly interested in actually playing this game for once.  I figured it would be fine on my new desktop but it's horrible.  NOTHING ever loads.  I'm lucky if I can see myself.  I can't even figure it out because m computer can run any game.  Although I havent tried playing anything on my school's network until now.  It's a **bleep**ty connection but it should be OK at least.

From this speed test I took, my computer has 8.99 Mb/s download and 3.77 Mb/s upload.
Specs are - Intel Core i5, 3.10 GHz, 16GB Ram, Radeon 6870

What's wrong?  The internet connection?

Yes, the Radeon 6850 is a decent graphics card, and only a couple of years old, so it's probably not your problem.  Network connection issues probably are.  Unlike online games, Second Life puts a very heavy demand on having a continuous connection.  It is not largely client-side, the way WoW is, for example. SL swapos data back and forth from its servers all the time, updating scenes often enough that if the data stream is interrupted for even a second, you will crash. Before that, you'll experience various forms of lag.  Check your Statistics Bar (Shift + 1) to see what your ping time and packet loss are.  Then read http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ for suggestions about what you can do to improve the connection.
