Im new to sl some what. And started a group for people who want to earn lindens inworld.
The groups name is "lindens united".
Im wondering so now how can i promote this group to bring in members?
The goal of the group is to earn enough lindens to fund a sim that can generate lindens, like a casino, club, gentlemans club, market place where things are also sold.

Much as I don't wish to quash any idea of enterprise, I would suggest that you think very very carefully about this and do lots of research.

Gambling is not permitted, casino is a non starter.

Club - what's the revenue stream for this?  Tips alone won't fund a sim.  You're going to need around L$75000 per month to fund a sim (more if you rent it of someone else but then you won't have start up costs or ongoing tier and can walk away at any time).

Gentleman's Club, pretty much the same as above.  What's the revenue stream?

Marketplace?  See http://marketplace.secondlife.com  Without being allied to a themed region such as a role play sim with themed merchants, a mall just for a marketplace is going to be very difficult to generate enough for tier for a full sim.  Merchants don't rent for the fun of it, merchants want an ROI too so unless you've a compelling reason for a merchant to rent then why would they?  There are many malls that are struggling to be viable.

You will have to work incredibly hard to attract people to a venue, what will be unique about a club that won't already be served by all the existing (struggling, loss making) clubs?

Why a full sim?  What's wrong with just renting some land instead?

Finally, a group where you want a co-operative set of members to pay money in order to fund your sim will be a tough sell, what's in it for them?  Simple numbers, at minimum you will need to attract 295 members all of whom are prepared to pay $1 a month, not much no but i'm not sure I could find 295 people prepared to do that.

Good luck though but do think about this very carefully.

If you're going to be in it for the long run, you should consider selecting a new, an original group name. The use of the word Linden, may create problems for you.

To promote something, you must offer an advantage.

Your goal can be realized. Simplified, you need to obtain approximately 9.7 objects, everyday, in SL.

The objects are  dollars $ usd.

Good news is, you don't need an entire Region to do that; not that you should take your eye off the goal, but rather an easier path, to lessen your burden.

Technically, you don't need any Land to get started, but some land is helpful.

If you're flush with cash, you could just self fund the project.

If not, you need a product, or service, OR, the product or service of another Resident.

Many Residents make things, without any desire to get involved with the work, of listing and selling.

An honest product marketer, could find a niche. A reputable profit sharer, could be overly successful, he or she, might even need a client limit, to ensure quality service.

Gambling for money, is not permitted.

Gentleman's club? Billiards and cigar rooms, or pole dancers and cheap booze? Both of those operations require private funding.

With time, it is possible to assemble connections, that will allow for expansion.

Keys to Success

  • scripting
  • building
  • textures
  • web media
  • landscaping
  • designing
  • decorating
  • photography
  • videographer
  • MP Merchant
  • animator
  • avatar creation
  • clothing
  • jewelry
  • furniture
  • Land
  • Rentals
  • terms of service
  • Customer service

Know these things, or find people that do know, and try to work together.

If I had my way, I would just make plywood buildings. The scripter would add function. The texturer' would add beauty. A landscaper would create a setting. A lighting specialist would highlight the set. Furniture makers could furnish the rooms. Appliance makers, Food creators, clothing and linen producers, home accessories and lawn furniture. Photographers would take MP photos. A videographer would film a video tour of the Home, showing all featured products. Listing team would list.

How many people is that? I wasn't counting.

I might have big dreams.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Edit: to adjust for tier variable (let's call it about $10 a day, over one year)

start up fees not included.

like batteries,... really expensive ones.

The cost of land in relation to the revenue streams, of course vary.  But IMO, they are not at all conducive to new business nor upstarts.

Gambling is not allowed in sl but having a business in sl is a gamble.  Few succeed & when I say succeed, I mean become profitable enough that you can earn enough to support yourself in rl.  The next level is probably the sl biz that makes enough to cover tier & perhaps keep you in shoes.  There are many more of these than the first example of course.  Finally you have the hobbiest who forks out their mad money simply to indulge their creative side (me btw).

All of these, you are dependant on LL to dictate the terms, which can change at any time & have in the past.  A good example is the land fiasco where many many sl land owners went ***up & many of those, left sl.

I totally agree with the opinion that you need a unique product or find a niche that nobody else has filled.

But the best advise I can give is research research research.  Learn as much if not more about what you want to enter into before spending any money that you may never recoup.

And finally - enjoy & have fun!!!

A lot of people have given you criticism on your plans already; however let me tackle the issue of your chosen group name.

'Lindens' are not just L$ (Linden Dollars), they are also employees of the Service Operator, Linden Lab. There is significant wording in both the Community Standards and Terms of Service that relate to not impersonating employees of the Lab. Further, there is a branding agreement that is necessary to understand before deciding on a name for your brand, group or collective; it's important that you don't step on anyones' toes, especially where trademarks are already registered ('Linden' is one such trademark).

It is not unknown for Second Life users to lose their groups, time, money and accounts by failing to understand the risks of ignoring any of the three documents linked to above.

(This seems fairly basic, as far as Group Promoting goes.)

I love that idea!  I have a small business.  My very favorite things to do within it are texturing the builds, taking photos of the build to create the ads, and writing the ad copy.

I can tinker a bit with VERY simple scripts but, in general, even looking at a script gives me headaches.  I have no clue how to make sculpties, use Blender or any of the 3D programs; no earthly idea how to make animations and really don't have a knack for decorating.

Something I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing since I'm an organization freak is keeping my inventory lean and well-organized.  I can log into SL and spend blissful hours weeding out inventory, consolidating, thinking of new ways to consolidate, etc.  It is relaxing for me.  (I can see people starting to back away slowly from the "crazy woman" as I speak...lol.)  My "dream job" in SL would be to get paid for organizing other peoples' inventories but there is no method that I know of to do this except actually logging on *as* the person and, besides the client needing to have enormous trust in me, I honestly wouldn't even do it then on the off chance SL would glitch while I was logged on as another avatar and I would be blamed for any loss.  I think it's against the TOS to give out the pw of one's account anyway.

Just going with the idea that a very few rare people enjoy "doing it all."  Thus the merchants who sell building components.

Reading this, I think I might know what you're working towards, but I also might be way off base too.

First I need to ask though, and I guess it will help me better offer advice, and maybe others too.

How do you intend to help others earn lindens? I ask this because if you can't answer it, then I think you might be thinking a little too big for your britches. Not that it's a bad thing, but you might be thinking way too large, despite wanting to start off small. So, what are your goals? What is it you want to help people do? I know, earn lindens, but please clarify that. Are you looking to help people find places to earn lindens? So offering an informational group/place/whatever? Are you looking to find things, products, to help your group members earn lindens? In this case, you'll need land to rez these items. They DO exist, but they certainly won't make anyone rich and they will cost you(the group?) money. Are you looking for companies or merchants to join with you on this endeavor? What is it really that you're aiming to do? Other than "help people make money" because it's a very vague statement.

So what are your basic ideals?

I'm not asking you to give away some super secret or your entire operation or something. But the folks here are really informative, great at giving advice and helping people find what they need, or don't in some cases. So the more clear you can make things, the more help people can give.

If you're simply looking to promote a group, and nothing more, I suggest making sure it's visible in your profile(and tell other members to do the same-if they want). You could put it in your picks, and have others do the same. You could find groups that allow advertising and advertise it there. Look in search for related terms to your group, and you'll likely find advertising groups(some may not be free to join) where you're allowed to distribute your group name, and invite people to join you. You might find a sim that has good traffic and has adboards or some other form of advertising where you can promote your group. It really will be a lot of leg work on your part, but I'm sure you're not afraid of that. I don't think there is a spot on the forums for it, but you could have your group host an event somewhere. Events can be advertised on the forums, as well as under events in-world. That might help a lot. If you don't have land, you could rent a spot. I've seen some cheap ones. Some rent by the hour, some by the day, some by the week, or more.

I can think of all sorts of things I personally would do with this kind of idea, but I've no clue if they're really along the wavelength of your ideas.

Thank you for your support.

The focus, is on each person, doing what he, or she, does best.

We all have our limitations. Utilizing multiple craftsmen, each a specialist in his or her field of work, would generate builds with layers of character and style.

Experience has taught me, that the right people, skilled people, are Artist in what they do. Creativity needs it's space, and time. Part of the vision is a private Region, with about 10 homes, at various stages of completion.

A Group Charter might read as: Work when inspired, eat when hungry, sleep when tired, repeat.

Inventory sorting.... I have socks in the Dryer. Sometimes, I just dump the all the socks in the draw, close it. Poof, socks are done!

Accessing Inventories, maybe:

Registered Corporation in the State of California

Licensed Contractor in CA.

Insured

Bonded

Even after jumping through those massive hoops, LL might still say NO.

We can dream together.

Very good, it sounds like you're going to do well.

Many of my suggestions, still apply.

I've given away plenty of items I've made, and the next owners, are free to use the items as they wish (no griefing).

Meet 100 people like me, and you would have original products. (a note card from the creator, with consent, would be very helpful 2 u).

Small as possible, is your avatar, as mentioned. Get out and meet people, go to them, build connections.

Be sincere, be yourself; and you will never lose your cover. :matte-motes-smile:

if its only about getting L$ then make a group called Crystal Grinders or Crystal Flashmob or something like that

then have the group grind it out on the Linden Realms to get the L$ to pay the rent on a private sim/parcel. make some group notices about how to do that, like where is the green/blue crystals

can extend the group to other grinding activities as well, off-world surveys, lucky prizes and club competitions etc that pay by voting boards for a flashmob to fill up their clubs. also MM, lucky chairs, shop gifts for brandnew newbies. stuff like this

We earn lindens by doing what each member does best. Fishing, splodges, contest, hosting, djing, ect.

Our small goal is to help each member make lindens (in turn to pay dues).

Our big goal is to gain some land to further our venture's.

we teach people to earn lindens through little work and at next to no cost.

We can be considered a info hub/collective.

We wil be using products to make income.

and this group does understand it takes effort and cost to earn.

we dont mind merchant help. We would rather depend on our own sales merchents. We would not mind endorsing.

Also tari landar and knowl paine you both seem to be on the same page with idea. I was wondering if we could meet inworld to talk more about this. If so add me im Losangelesgraff.

16, i havnt made any L$ doing crystal games although id like to maybe you can show me. Please also add me.

What would be the cheapst rent to build a meeting place monthly.

Is an interesting idea to form a group to earn Lindens for the collective.  However, IMO I can see a lot of problems down the line.  Putting a group together to do anything can be fraught with drama, add money to the mix and you have a recipe for MEGA drama. Just off the top of my head I can think of one issue you will probably deal with right off and that's one person out there earning much for the collective and others earning very little but all taking advantage of the sim.  Just an example.

In addition to that, you have to gain the trust of your members and ensure them that whomever are running the group are on the up and up.  There are many ways in sl to take advantage & get those Lindens so people generally aren't very trustworthy nor trusting in sl.

As for cheapest rent for building a meeting place monthly?  SL land  costs vary accross the board & there are many factors involved here.  I would recommend looking at what your needs are going to be, how many members you need to accomodate at any given time on your land, what your budget presently is and how much you will need to earn each month to keep the place going.

I wish you luck with your endeavour :)

about the crystals, can show you how to do that yes

+

to sustain any land longterm you going to need more than a collective, just to pay tiers. they don't last really. them that do is bc the main people have some RL connection going as well

the most successful people who do this have some attracion to a particualr secion of RL community. example: VAI - Virtual Ability. they get sponsors who willing to put time and money into the sim

+

other different examples are: Free Dove, FabFree, Grumble, etc. they newbie oriented. they all have large groups. is adevertising model for them to help pay the tiers. Adverts from other shopkeepers in the form of free gifts. newbies come and get the gifts. if and when they convert to pay customers then quite a lot of new people will go to the advertisers shops and buy something. is like a payback for the advertising shopkeepers helipng them when they first started. is lots of people will do that

+

like others say already you kinda want to research and study up on how the successful ones do it

+

dont need to start with anything big like

was this one girl who end up making a really good thing for herself back in the day. she was a newbie and she liked to be a neko. she used to go round the lucky chairs just for herself. after a time she found all the good ones and made a folder of landmarks for herself, then she end up swap them with other people like her who was playing on the chairs

then she made a group. and just invite other people she met by the chairs. she left group open and enable anyone can invite others. was just for fun really and for everyone to share and help. and they would shout out in the group what was the lucky chairs and people with that letter on their name would yell. TP!!! TP!! hehe (:

after only like 3 months was about 2,000 people in the group. and they was pretty active, like chatting about all kinds of things, and being silly, and telling each other where is good stuff as well

+

also like some of the regulars would shout out: PARTY at my place. TP !!! TP !!! TP !!! most the time wasn't even their place. was some random public park or beach they found with a cool radio stream and a dance ball. so party up anyways. the owners of the places would sometimes turn up and go wooooaaaahhh!! who is all these people rock my place.

and if owner was nice people then landmark that place and some group members would end up hang out there regular and become a friends of the random owner who got mobbed (:

was like a super flashmob. also someone would chat OMG i found this really cool thing at XXX for like 0L or 5L or 10L or whatever cheap. then booom!!! flashmob. people came piling in from all over. crashed the sims somedays so many people trying to get in on the deal

+

bc was a active group then shopkeepers catch on. she end up getting lots of shops wants her to promote them in her group. so she do that and end make some money. quite a bit

but she was really picky about who she accept adverts and money from, like only orginal creator/makers. some the big ones happy to pay heaps. but she also would let some newbie creators who just starting out to advert for free in the group

bc she was picky the big advertisers wants to be in even more. she turn down quite a few people as well. bc she not want to spam what was really a social group. she just end up making a notecard catalog with the ad links in it

she not do for the money really. just diid for herself and her friends to start with. then it just went from there. money just kinda comes i think. in these kinds of situations

+

same with what you trying to do

just start doing stuff that you want to do. like an activity that appeals to other people. other than just own a land. when you do that they you get a active group going, a social one. the money will come then all by itself. and the land bc if it
