Question

When I rezzed basic prim at the Gunnar sandbox, I am unable to get permission for changing parameters, after making a copy of it and linking the copy to the first prim.

1. Rez a prim from the build tools window (example a cone)

2. Click to close the build window.

3. Right click the object and select "Take copy".

4. Rez that copy from inventory close to the first object or on it.

5. Right click first object and select "Edit"

6. With the shift key pressed, select the first and second object to link.

7. In the General tab try and change the name or size in object tab.

Result: I cannot

What I expected is to be able to rename or change dimensions or other parameters.

To add to the previous correct answers...

Why are you taking the object into your inventory at all?  It is much quicker to do this:

1.  Rez a prim.

2.  Hold the SHIFT key and drag the prim using one of the colored arrows.  The original prim will move, leaving a copy of itself behind.

This is known as the "SHIFT+Drag" method of prim creation, and it's very powerful.

Now, with one of the prims still selected, hold SHIFT and left click the other one.  Hit CTRL+L to link the prims.  Remember that the LAST prim you select will become the "root prim" of the linkset.  Choosing the correct root prim can be important in terms of later positioning or rotating the object.
