RLV Folders

Recommended Posts

I have a new wife and would like for her to be able to be dressed out of the RLV folders. She is not however able to understand complex written instructions as those I've seen on the internet describing how to set the folders up. Is there a simple set of instructions or better yet screenshots of how these folders should be arranged?

just make a folder called #RLV and under that subfolders, one for each outfit.
Add items (or better yet, links to items if you have a modern viewer) to those folders, that's all there is to it for most things.
Depending on the viewer, there might be trouble with multiple alpha layers and/or attachments to a single point, in which case more elaborate structures may be required (or upgrading to a more modern viewer).

Hello SinfulPrince

I am not sure if you've seen this, but you ask about instruction with screenshots. For me, the best information about how to configure clothings give the both tutorials made by Marine herelf. The tutorials have also screenshoots so that seems to be what you look for:

Part 1

Part 2

However, the instructions are long. Also depends on what viewer she uses, she may have to activate the shared folders feature (#RLV folder for clothing) in the viewer first in order others can access the folder's content.

What she can also do is, and i take it as best way, she can take some device accessing the shared folder for example the OpenCollar (which costs npthing) or the RR collar (Steel collar or RR Elegance) and get access to the item as master or owner. Than she can configure her shared folders and see the effect in the menus herself, and also see how the itms are looking for you (if you are in the dom role)

Hope that helps

Jenna

Can you (or any one) point me to more information on dealing with multiple attachments and clothes?

Thanks

That's normally handled by the scripting.

The only thing the user can do, at least according to the API, is start the folder name with a + sign, to ensure that items are added to points (i.e. they don't knock off existing attachments).   Marine warns, however, that this behaviour may not be maintained.

There may be other things particular viewers can do, but that's all the API has to say about it, I think.

i'm still tinkering with it.

it's not something that i use much.

getting multiple clothing layers on is nice too but i seem to have a problem getting them to layer in the order i want them

also,i do switch between which viewer i use depending on what i'm doing and this may be having an impact.

As I said, whether items are are added to or replace existing items is primarily handled by the scripting; RLV uses different commands depending on what's supposed to happen.   However, for historical reasons, if you start a folder (or subfolder) name with a + sign, it will add the item (though that behaviour isn't guaranteed to last).,

The best advice I can give, really, is to consult the documentation that comes with the particular device you want to use to access your wife's shared folders.   There's different ways the scripter may have approached the issue, and reading the documentation is best way to find out what exactly the scripter did.

I have been trying for months off and on to get this to work... It did when I originally setup folders but I've made a mess from reading what appear to be opposing tutorials :) In plain language... When clothing items are stripped, I want to automatically add "nude" items. For example, when my shoes, base and alpha are stripped, I want to auto add my barefeet. I play BARE and it is SEAMLESS how there are clothing folders and associated nude folders. One comes off, the associated nude folder items go on. Please point me in the right direction to try to accomplish the same in RLVa (Firestorm 4.6.5.xxx, open collar 3.950) THANKS!

You can only do this via custom LSL scripting, RLV/RLVa does not have the capability to do this automatically.

RLV/RLVa does not know when your clothing is stripped, and has no specific control over 'bodyparts' or attachments specified as such - it's also not possible to determine between 'feet' alpha and say, 'arm' alpha. I am unaware of a commercial product that can accomplish your requests - I coded my own, but it's not available for sale as it requires extensive resources.

RLV is very different to BARE, in that RLV is a protocol, and BARE is a finished system.

Consider the RLV API if you choose to follow in my footsteps. :)

Thank you for reply! I know there was similar functionality using auto-add, +folders (ie +pelvis) but I am lost trying to find consistent advice on foldering. It used to actually work the other way around... what was in +folder was always on you unless you put on something else same attach point. Appreciate any pointers!!!

The prefix '+' is now used within RLV/RLVa to Add (rather than Wear). I can't vouch for what functionality used to exist.

All consistant advice regarding RLV should be found within the RLV API that I linked above.

hello, I am trying to use some tranformation machines by Rygel Ryba. Apparently the builder is not available. I am not able to get the machine to work for me. I don't know the folder set up.  I seem to get messages to the effect your folders are not set up properly. Or it does not even recognize me as a subject. Also is ther a place to get a LBOM HUD?  I think that is all I remember to ask now. Thanks.
