Can't sign-in for 12 hours. An old alt sign-in works immediately. Password ok. What is going on?

Question

I have updated Firestorm to latest  version. I have changed my password.

I have confirmed I can get on SL fine using an old alt.

My present account remains blocked. No specific error message just "You have been logged out...." without getting on at all.

Help please?

Thanks

Shabana

In response to Echo Hermit:

"Furball" as start up location gives same result. I had tried other locations as well.

How does one answer a question thread here, I am missing something?

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried logging into a different start location with your 'blocked' alt?  It might just be the connection between your computer and the server to which your avatar is trying to connect is out of action.

Please change start login location to Furball and let us know here what happens.

Unfortunately, you can not add replies as you would expect in answers... You can, however, add information to your question as you have done, but you can also press 'permalink' below one of the replies to add a comment. Adding info to your original post will not trigger email notifications to the ones who have replied to you, but adding comments will cause notifications to be sent out.

The message you get, is it You have been logged out... with a 'View IM...' and 'Quit' buttons, or is it the 'The system is logging you out, try in a few minutes' that Roseysun mention?

In the first case I'm thinking connection, but not since you can log in with an alt. I suggest you try to (re)move the folder specific to the avatar in question from an \AppData folder somewhere. (I don't use windows so I don't know the excact path, and I'm to lazy to search to find it. ;):D:P. I'm kidding - try this path: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\ SecondLife\). If you're on a mac you find it in ~/library/application support/Second life. A new folder will be created the next time you try to log in.

If you get the latter message you may be wearing a group tag with invalid characters. (I don't think this bug is fixed yet.) Do you remember if you changed the group title before logging out last? If this is the case, you have to log in with an alt to try to change the group title, or see if you can get kicked out of the group by the owner. If this is not possible, file a ticket.

Hope some of this helps.

Hello again, Shabana. How are things today?

After I'd gone off line, I thought some more about your problem.  Luc may be right (about the group tag).

Also, if you are able to log in on an alt, but not on your main/present account, it could be because you have a lot more detail on your present account, and you lose your connection mid-way through everything loading.

If it were me, I would log into Firestorm as the alt, go into the menus at the top of the screen (I use Phoenix so am not sure whether you have Advanced, or Develop menu), but look for an option in one of those drop down menus for "show consoles". Log out and log back in again with the account that is causing you problems.  The extra console window should come up, alongside your main viewer screen, and as you log in, you get a clue where in the log in process you are being logged out.

Also if it were me, I would clear cache, and reset my modem to get a fresh connection.

Please keep this thread updated on your progress, either as you have done already, or via the "permalink" bottom left hand side of any post you wish to respond to.

Wishing you luck.

hi guys, and thanks much for all your suggestions. I'll just answer all the queries I got without specifying where they came from to make it shorter:

--the problem persists: I can't sign in my usual account but an old alt works perfectly eveyr time.

--I DID get in once for about 30 seconds and in that time went to Preferences to clear cache and I noted some invisible prims on the feet were messed up (invisible ankles and feet) and was attempting to look into that when I got the usual message which was:

--"You have been logged out... The region may be experiencing trouble...." with a 'View IM...' and 'Quit' buttons

--had a talk with sim owner (using my alt) and he checked my land and found nothing unusual. He mentioned some ghost sign-in as Shabana might be preventing me re-logging as one of you also identified as possible

--I used to have a non-standard symbol in my username but took that off and its all vanilla script now

--Re C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\ SecondLife\)

I always seem to have trouble finding this (I'm on PC, not Apple) as I cant find the AppData directory as it is hidden/ locked or something. Will keep trying.

--I dont use a router, modem only and I restarted with no effect.

--changed password, reinstalled Firestorm to latest build

--have changed sign in location to various others with no effect

Yes I have a ton more detail and inventory on my new account as it is the only one active really for years now. Btw I had serious lag for a month and finally upgraded my computer just 2 weeks ago to 4 gig RAM from the previous 2. This cleared up the lag issue completely.

Thanks all will carry on with this today and if I have no luck will submit a ticket. I'm wondering if it is worth becoming a premium member just to get the faster help--I have no experience with getting SL tsch help.

Thanks again!

Hi people again.

I have taken Echo's suggestion and:

--put the Advanced / Develop menu up on my alt in SL, exited and

--brought up my regular alt and got the usual "You have been logged out" message, but this time got the whole raft of console information. Unfortunately you can't cut & paste this and I don't see any upload jpeg file function in this forum, so I copied much of what seemed the most important information for you here. It is not exact or complete--the log of course goes on extensively.

Here it is:

WARNING:/Message /avatarnamecache.(ccp291) : AvatarNameCache : : HandleAgentError get legacy for agent [long 20-character code]

XML_STATUS_ERROR parsing:

Info: newview inventory model background fetch.cpp(555)

InventoryModelFetchDescendentsResponder: : Error 499: STATUS_EXPIRED

I also noted on my inventory screen it said:

Inventory: fetching 900 items. Received 9

at the moment it timed out and I exited,

Hope someone can target the issue here?

If you need me to more completely transcribe the log I would be happy to.

Thanks again!

I'll leave the interpretation of the log to Echo. :) I was starting to think that perhaps you have an attachment on your avatar or an item in your inventory that is somehow broken that may cause the issue. I'm not sure, though, because this usually result in a crash - not a logged out message.

Very strange...

Hey Luc thanks much for that. As I said I DO have some sort of invisible prim issue on the feet but not sure if that's the issue or not.

Ack I hit the accept solution not realising it might close my thread and question--I didn't intend that as the problem is not solved--I just meant I was accepting the solution to try extensively.

Sorry about that--should I restart the question with a new thread until it is solved?

Thanks,

Shabs

Hmmm... New question or not.... I don't know, really. :) I guess you can't set it back to not answered?

Unless any of us comes up with a proper solution, I guess you should start a new question. At least others will se it and perhaps join in. You could add a link to this thread to show what has been suggested and tried so far.
