JT Hamelin
Hey guys,I can't seem to get SL running on the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 12.04. Whenever I click on the icon, nothing happens :(. Anyone have any suggestions?
Darren Scorpio
I may be wrong since I don't have a 64 bit system, but I believe you must have the 32 bit libraries installed, since SL is made to run on 32 bit. So give that a try. ETA: In case you need it sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
Jenni Darkwatch
Also... run it from a terminal, it'll give you more info WHY it's failing. My experience with trying to run it in 64bit has been abysmal. Some people claim they got it to run fine, but no one ever bothered to post detailed library requirements/settings needed to make it work.

Darren Scorpio
Glad you got it worked out. You might want to change the title of the thread to add [sOLVED] to it in case someone with a similar issue is looking for an answer.

adilsonmsouza
Guys, I need some help!Efetuei installing Second Life in ubuntu 15.10 is everything running cool Minus the audio and microphone. Can anyone help me
Jenni Darkwatch
Presuming you installed all needed 32bit libs: Remove the libopenal* files from the Second Life lib folder. That forces the system libraries, fixing sound. For the mic... best I could come up with was to download the latest Kokua viewer and copy the libvivox* files from there. If you grab the 64bit version, the libraries are in the lib32 folder. Otherwise they're in the lib folder.

The most common problems when launching the Viewer (particularly 'bin/do-not-directly-run-secondlife-bin: not found' and 'error while loading shared libraries') may be solved by installing your Linux distribution's 32-bit compatibility packages. For example, on Ubuntu and other Debian-based Linuxes you might run: $ sudo apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk ia32-libs-kde ia32-libs-sdl ******************************************************* This is a BETA release of the Second Life linux client. Thank you for testing! Please see README-linux.txt before reporting problems. And BTW, maybe the instructions need a refresh for the install of 32 bits libraries: sudo apt-get install ia32-libs [sudo] password for xgiannak: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package ia32-libs is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source However the following packages replace it: lib32z1 lib32ncurses5 lib32bz2-1.0 E: Package 'ia32-libs' has no installation candidate Thanks for your effort, and looking forward to start exploring! xg
