You can enable show crosshairs.

Some viewers let you choose not to let others see your crosshairs.

Also, there is nothing wrong with looking at someone's avatar in a 3d Graphics program, like Second Life.

I suggest you leave "show look at" turned OFF.  That way you won't be getting yourself in a dither.

Whole heartily agree, some stupid biach told me she was going to report me for having my camera on her avatar. Like, really? You are in a visual environment and don't want anyone looking at you? I should have passed her a full body alpha layer and my calling card so she at least spells my name right.
