gosh, I rather hope not.

But you can already get emails when your friends IM you (up to the 25 message cap).  And you can get a limited SL client for your smart phone...Pocket Metaverse for the iPhone, Mobile Grid Client or Lumiya for Android.

There are applications for Iphone/ipad and andriod devices, have a look ot the third party viewer list http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory#Viewer_list

Also as Lindal has already pointed out you can reply to offline messages using email (assuming you heve them set to go to email when you're offline).  And I'm pretty sure the 25 message cap doesn't apply to messages sent to email, all offline messages are sent to email, however you will only see the first 25 the next time you login to secondlife,
