It may be time to upodate your drivers......

Mac drivers are included with OS upgrades. However, to determan what card you have, select “About this Mac” from the Apple menu, then click “More Info”. Under Hardware select Graphics/Displays
If you are not sure what type of video card you have, use GPU-Z found (win only) here. For linux, in a console use: lspci | grep VGA

Nvidia Video Driver

  • Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows: 285.62 (Oct 24) beta: 295.51 (Jan 31) - Linux: 290.1 (Nov 22)

ATI Video Driver

  • Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows and Linux: 12.1 (Jan 25)

Intel Video Driver

  • Intel driver download page Intel does not have a universal driver set. Please go to Intel's site and select the appropriate download.

The latest viewer 3.3.3.260300 released yesterday has some texture changes (including a welcome fix for the pink torso bug which afflicted many) but one change in particular may be affecting you and that is" MAINT-708[c] Use texture compression to save VRAM and make up for places where the viewer blows its budget."

One resident comments in the Jira that she noticed some texture issues with her avatar on using the latest viewer and disabling the new tick box option in "Preferences > Graphics > Hardware > Enable Texture Compression" fixed it after rebaking (option says needs a restart). I don't know if this is enabled by default with a clean install (it wasn't enabled for me using existing settings file) but check this just in case and disable if enabled. Then restart SL.

Could also be what Rolig suggested, your graphics card needs a driver update.

Graphics Cards

To find out what graphics card you have:

Select Start Menu > Run

In the command box type dxdiag and press ok

Click the Display tab in the window that opens

The top line under the section Device should give you the graphics card manufacturer and card series

If you have a desktop with AMD (ATI) or Nvidia graphics card, use these links:

NVidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?

AMD/ATI: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Input the details of your card or use Nvidia's auto detect utility if a Nvidia card.

AMD/ATI's auto detect utility is available here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

In its Help page http://www.nvidia.com/object/drivers_faq.html Nvidia recommends installing the new driver over the old one but to avoid issues, most people recommend you do uninstall first. You do have to uninstall AMD drivers before installing the new one. However, it's very simple and AMD provide helpful videos on that link.

If you have an Intel integrated chipset, use Intel's driver detect utility at http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?redirector_count=1&

If you have a notebook, you may need to download an updated driver from the notebook manufacturer's website, depending on the card. For AMD Mobility cards in laptops, refer to the links on this page http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx

AMD does supply generic Mobility drivers for laptops with some restrictions and warnings. Refer http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

For Nvidia cards in notebooks, Nvidia provide drivers from this link http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html

Nyll has you figuring out your graphics info the hard way.

When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. Get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post. Its a much easier copy/paste.

nVidia Control Panel Guide - The latest nVidia driver is 301.42 WHQL or the Beta 304.48 (June 18)
