Question

I just bought an Angry Kitty outfit, I just opened it and only about 5 pieces of the outfit are actually wearable. I am very much a new user to Second Life, I have no idea what to do, and this is frustrating me because I paid for this outfit and it wont let me wear it, the rest of the outfit items are shown as orange boxes in the inventory, I am unable to open this outfit up any furthur, Ive even been trying to figure all this out for about a day now, and I have not come any closer to figureing this out.

Now my problem with my inventory items, for the Angry Kitty outfit I just bought, the items in the outfit that have the little orange box icons, when I attempted to open them hoping it would solve my issue, there was no shown ability to open these items and the items are just black outlines of the items they are supposed to be, for actual example of what I mean by this, these items such as a belt the outfit comes with when I bring it out onto sandbox island while trying to figure this all out, the item is completely black, no color to it what so ever, but its clearly visible to me that it is infact a belt, the whole belt is outlined, it basicly looks like the shape from a cookie cutter after you use a cookie cutter shape on cookie dough and u remove the dough, the shape is clear, but the inner details that make the "thing" easier to figure out as to just exactly what it is, is completely no detail at all, the outfits belt isnt the only issue, other issues in the outfit are the cat tail not showing up, just a black round small item that would be the tail part that sticks to the tailbone area of the avatar, but if I remove it and let it just be on sandbox island to try to fix it to actually be the tail its supposed to be, it shows the little round part, as well as these strands of black lines, around just 5 or 6 strands of black lines coming from the tail, Im assuming that is the rest of the tail but either way I have no idea at all as to how to fix these issues, the other items doing this are the braceletes in my outfit, the cat ears in my outfit, the shoes in my outfit, and any other accessory pieces such as jewerly and extras (the cat ears and tail for example of extra pieces), I hope I will be able to get this answered or I hope to be able to figure this out, its bugging the crap out of me.

I have read the answers I have received, to try to answer to those answers, my computer is a acer netbook and when I first entered the program for second life none of my starter clothing was even showing up on my avatar, and whenever I moved or anything my avatar would go from looking bad to looking like a smudge and it failed to adjust itself even after waiting 1 hour, as for the outfit, I just unboxed it like I normally would, and when I tried to wear the items I'm having issues with, the items are just black so basically they look no different trying to fix them on sandbox island then they are looking on my avatar, they are just black items. According to one of the answers I was provided with, I'm glad the outfit is working just fine for you but it will not work much at all for me, I've already attempted to try to figure out the tail issue I'm having but all of these items have barely any change effect or even no effect to change at all no matter what I do to it, I've even sat around waiting for the tail to load completely Incase it was just slow at doing so but nothing happened, all these items just appear to be black colored meshes or something because I have seen almost identical stuff like this on another program called IMVU, where I have seen this on imvu is where users on imvu are able to create their own items and such for imvu on a creator program imvu has in its chat client program, but from what I know of that, I know that the items I'm having issues with here are acting like they are just meshes to the outfit I bought, but yet these meshes are the only parts there, there is no mesh tail or cat ears or belt or any of the other black things I've received instead of the actual outfit I assumed I was getting as well as an actual tail, cat ears or belt or anything else, there is just these appearent meshes of the items, the only actual parts of the outfit that show up as they are supposed to are the pants, shorts, panties, sock things that look like almost thigh high ripped up slightly transparent grey stockings or tights like what female office workers wear usually in real life but more towards this outfit cat theme, the tattoo for the outfit, the long shirt top, the short shirt top, and the bra, and the arm warmers, everything else does not show up correctly, all the rest just shows up as black meshes as I described earlier, I have tried to mess with the items to make it correct but nothing has worked, even when I try to save those changes the changes just go back to the way they were before I even made any changes, I've even tried to mess with the items colors, no change, they stay black no matter what I try to do to them. As I've stated previously, I'm extremely noob ish to second life so I have really no clue as to anything I am even doing on the program, I barely manage to access areas of the sites store without having to try to find where the hair and skin and such all is buy able, also when It comes to locations on the program, everything is completely black except for areas with fields of grass and such, this was not happening before when I was trying to use second life a year ago on my old computer before it decided to almost pretty much no longer work after its lasted 6 or so years in constant use to the point where I almost never shut it off at all, as for the places, when I tried to go to the exact virtual store on the viewer that I bought this outfit from nothing of the store showed up no matter how long I waited for it to, the whole area besides the grass and just land areas did not show up at all, so I didn't know how to get into the store, I didnt know where anything was at all so I had to rely on waving my mouse pad around until the correct outfit name showed up for me to buy it, the site part where the outfit is however, stated that there is a link I can click on that would allow me to actually try on the entire outfit first before buying it, nothing happened all it did was teleport me to the store and that was all. I have no idea what a REZ is even though I've seen videos on it and such, nothing is making much of any sense to me at all right now, and yet the only real issues I'm currently facing is trying to get around without my avatar looking mentally retarded, wearing anything, trying to make it so I can wear stuff I own, being able to see buildings and such like the stores virtually, heck when I signed up and such, it didn't even take me to the start place that it took me to on my old computer a year ago, it just took me to the middle of no where where it said I was in Asia. So I have no clue as to what I'm even doing, my items refuse to work, barely anything that's not grass trees or default land will even show up on my screen no matter how long I wait for it, my clothing never loads or even shows, my avatar shows off as a smear whenever I even slightly move it, my avatar completely fails at moving like everyone else is moving around mine just looks like some messed up demented retarded idiot, I can barely get around anywhere, I cannot find anything easily in the site shop, and I think that's all my issues at the moment. Oh also, when I tried to open the tail and the other black stuff, the only things I got from them were scripts with pretty much no info besides the scripts stating that they cannot be edited or anything, even though the script titles said such things as how to resize and such the belt and how to modify the other stuff, but it didn't say anything, the only thing it said was that the script cannot be edited or anything, so all the items I'm having issues with only come with scripts, there's apparently no actual items, also I just bought a free hairstyle, It does show up when I try to wear it but with a big black box ontop of its head, also the hair is supposed to be blonde but it's red hair not blonde hair, the box won't go away at all, the last time I saw this, was on my old computer, the box is apparently actually a sign like some kind of advertisement for the hair that cannot be removed without the hair being removed with it, so I don't know what's going on their either, I'm thinking about re installing second life onto my old computer to see if theres any difference. It's ok now everything's fine, I think I just needed to update my second life program because since I did, I've been able to see everything properly

Hey Rainbows,

I own that avatar/outfit and it works Ok for me. Did you select the folder and then select Add to Current Outfit? It is a darling outfit and Don't try to open the little objects - Those are the prim parts of the outfit.

Is your viewer set to the lowest setting? This outfit's prim textures may not be showing up for you.

Is your internet connection working OK?

If this advise comes too late, re-rez the carton and copy back into your inventory.

PLEASE, edit your posts. Its quite not possible to gather all information from a wall of text, but I'll try to answer the best I can.

- Read the basic informations on how to open a box and wear items, it seems like you don't know how to do that.

- Provide better system informations about your computer. What hardware is in it? What kind of graphiccard to you use and what internetconnection do you have?

- Your outfit doesn't contain mesh, what you have their are layers (for pants or shirts and so on), flexible prims (like the tail) and some normal prims for accesoirs and shoes. Also, don't put them on the ground, it may just cause more problems and don't open the scripted items. They have a use and the open option is just for deleting them when not needed or for the creator to put new scripts into the object.

- to rez something means, to drop it out of the inventory to the ground.

- items which come in a box need first to be unpacked to wear them, there are instructions in the basic knowledge section.

(all I could answer so far....my eyes hurt...)

It sounds as if you have several things going on at once.  First, you have figured out that the items were boxed and have learned how to unbox them and transfer them to inventory, so that's good.

The items with an orange box icon next to them are all Objects (as opposed to scripts, animations, or notecards, for example). Since they are all parts of an outfit to be worn, it's probably not necessary -- and might be counterproductive -- to rez them on the ground.  You can lose them that way, and you may never be able to figure out how to attach them manually.  Just right click on each item in your inventory and select Wear.  The object should attach to the correct place on your body if its creator has made it correctly.

There should be other items in the collection as well, other than orange box Objects.  You should have shirts, jeans, tank tops, and socks, for example.  Each of those should have a clothing icon next to it in your inventory.  Again, you should just right click and select Wear.

From your description and from the photos and description in the Marketplace ad, it sounds as if at least some of the objects are sculpties or mesh objects.  It's hard to tell for sure, but the "strands of little black lines" sound like a sculpty or mesh object that has not rezzed completely for you yet.  That may mean that you need to adjust your LOD (Level Of Detail) settings, but it probably just means that you need to be patient or change your camera angle.

I have no idea why the objects are black, except that the Marketplace ad shows them all as black.
