I just want to throw this out here - not sure if Linden tracks this stuff though, but they should.

I've enjoyed SL for over five years and the one thing that I've consistantly found is that giving Linden money was the hardest, most difficult part.

FIrst, gift cards.  SL doesn't have gift cards like other social games has.  Neither do they accept major gift cards like Vanilla Visa.

I just tried to use my regular credit card, and even that got denied.

I've read the help forums that state that maybe I've gotten my address wrong or some other user generated error - but LINDEN is the only company that I have this problem. with.

I want Linden to suceed.  They should make money.  Their product is unique in the MMO universe.

Something is wrong with the accounting part of SL though.  I WANT to give moneyh to Linden...yet there seems to be barriers at ever f-ing step.

linden seems to be paranoid about money laundering. gift cards are one of easiest ways to do that

other people in USA say that the Green Dot (?) Visa debit card works OK for SL. am not sure how that exactly works but i think you can top it up at some shops in the USA

I use GreenDot and it works without any problems. It's pretty simple. You go into WalMart, CVS, Walgreens, 7 Eleven, etc and buy the Visa card for $4.95 I think. You set up your account , provide a name and address, assign a PIN and you are off. You "fill" the card several ways. You can buy a refill card at the above named stores for $20 or more, plus a $4.95 fee, take the card home and enter the number online. You can also fund through a bank account or PayPal, which doesn't incure the fee as far as I know. Since you have a PIN, the card can be used for the same types of transactions as any debit card. You can make purchases at most stores, or make withdrawls from ATM's. The one caveat is there are monthly fees, which can be waived if you conduct a certain amount of business  with GreenDot.  I've used it for over 2 years now, since getting rid of all my credit cards and have never had any issues with SL.

 

I've been playing  since 2007, and giving LL money has always been a problem at times, which is mind boggling .

Gift cards are an open door for under age residents to skirt past age verification. And gift cards do not give personal information. It cant be used as a trype of Identifying card.

GreenDot and others that get your personal info is okay to use....

I finally got my card to work.  Didin't put the dot after the "st."

Porn sites are easier to give money to than SL is...not that I would know about that.

Don't use the gift cards FOR AGE VERIFICATION.  Use it to take money.

If it's about money laundering - why is there no open communication about it - they really do sucks when it comes to payment.

yes is pita sometimes linden when it comes to giving them money

using payment method as age verification is a legacy thing and not apply anymore. now just have to promise on the signup that you are as old as you say you are and you good to perv. same like how pr0n sites do it

the money launder thing is something that most sites that allow you to cash out worry about. can get in trouble with the regulators if you not careful how you handle them. if is just a cashin site and no cashout then gift cards are really good and easy way to let people put money in the game
