Junk Mail (USPS NOT EMAIL) is arriving at my house addressed to my av

Has anyone had this happen? I'm getting junk mail -- not email, I'm talking about catalogs in my mailbox at my house--and it's addressed to my av. I have a total of 3 avs, and my roommate has 2, but they are not getting junk mail, All three have been premium accounts.

The junkmail is target marketed to maturnity shopping, Pampers, baby stuff, you name it, and absolutely nothing else. I'm not a child av, and I have no child or SL family interests, or group memberships. And . . . in real liife I have no children and I often joke that i prefer the company of my pets to children, and baby birds to baby humans.

This appears to be a prank. And, there is only one person in SL who knows me in real or first life. Other than the Lindens and this person, no one in the game knows my home address. And no one in my first life knows my avs name. 

So I'd like to ask, has this happened to anyone or have you heard of it? Do you think it is a first life prank? Do you think the first life jerk (former c-worker) may have put me on a mailing list? Or is it possible this is being generated from with in SL?

I agree with all the answer Griff gave IF your account has not been hacked or you don't have some sort of spyware on your computer, such as a keylogger.  If I were you I'd completely eliminate those possibilites before accusing anyone of anything.

This reminds me of the time a friend, got a credit card application in the mail for their dog. They applied and dog had a nice little visa card with a 2500 balance.

There was a recent incident in the uk where a dead person was ordered to attend court. A dog was once called for jury duty and a young child ordered to turn up for military training.

There was an article I remember seeing in the last handful of months, about how Target stores would look at what women of child-bearing ages were buying, and if they had purchased certain items would automatically sign that woman up to receive targeted ads, catalogs, and coupons for all that kind of maternity-related stuff. No idea how an AV name could get associated with that if that was indeed the case, unless maybe it was due to an online purchase of some kind, and then the AV name and your RL address got sold on a list which these marketers bought. Just an thought...

I've been in SL since 06.  I've never had anything like that happen to me, no.

 

And it's highly unlikely that anyone would pay the Lindens anything for the ability to determine what your avatar is up to and target RL ads to it.  What sales could anyone make like that, hmm?

 

You are probably the victim of a silly practical joke.  Look at the postmark on the return address -- do you know any people who live in that city?  If so, asking for some "free literature" in some leather and bondage catalogs to that person would be just payback.
