Catznip, Dolphin and Marine's RLV all have a UI very similar to V3.  Exodus and Niran's are V3-based, but their interfaces differ rather more -- Niran's radically so.

They're all very good.  I particularly like Catznip because it's got some very useful tweaks to outfits, which I use a lot, and I find it very fast and stable.   Niran's I like too -- it's designed with higher-end machines in mind, and if you're fortunate enough to have one, the graphics are something else; it completely transforms SL.

You can find them all at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_party_viewers#Third-party_Viewers.

Inara Pey regularly reviews TPVs at her blog, Living in the Modem World (scroll down the page and you'll find links to all her viewer reviews in the right-hand column, about a quarter of the way down).  Nalates Urriah often reviews viewers, too.

You mention not liking phoenix firestorm.

Phoenix is viewer 1 based, but Firestorm is an example of a viewer that is close to viewer 3. In fact -most- TPVs these days are variations on viewer 3. There's only a very small handful that are still viewer 1 based: Phoenix, Imprudence, Cool, and maybe a few others I'm less aware of.

ALmost everything else will be like viewer 3 for most of its UI and under the hood engine.

To check status or something?  What exactly is it what you want to check?

If you haven't crashed earlier and if now suddenly the same viewer always crashes, then it is most likely that something has changed in your system.  Some viewer files or graphics driver files might have get corrupted.  To find out is the reason corrupted viewer files: uninstall the viewer and then do a fresh new install.

PS

A brand new laptop is not a guarantee that SL will run smoothly.  There are all kinds of laptops, cheap low performance ones not good for SL and there are fast expensive laptops which run SL well.  Because you say that you have never crashed before I think your laptop is ok for SL.

Before i posted this forum i cleared my cache then tried it again, still the same thing. Then i reinstalled the viewer, still the same thing. I downloaded that exodus viewer & it is almost the same as v3 i love it :P

So yeah firestorm or whatever looks like crap on my computer or whatever settings i have set make it look like crap & i dont feel like toggling with it. Thanks charlotte :) You saved me from a boring friday night.

I had a very similar problem. The V3 worked fine and then, after an update, it would crash either at login or right after lgging in - every time, so I couldn't use it and had to go back to Phoenix. Since then, I've changed my computer and the V3 works fine again. (Oddly enough, more recently the Phoenix viewer suddenly stopped letting me open my own scripts so I had to use the V3).

I think my V3 is set to auto-update so I'm thinking that your problem may have started after an update.
