If you are looking for a full custom one of a kind avatar, be prepared to pay a lot of RL money for one because they take weeks of full time work to create and require some advanced skills.  Unless your extremely lucky , no one is going to do it for free or even a couple thousand lindens and you will generally get the quality you pay for. 

Alternatively there are plentry of different avatar componants on the market that you can buy  put together your self to achieve most looks.  If you don't know how to do this or don't want to take the time, there are people that you can hire to help  you.  Look in classifieds for 'make overs' and stylists.

i agree with amethyst 

as an avatar creator i can tell you its just not worth building custom ones.

try looking for parts at grendels and on the mp. its cheaper to make it yourself and the result is normaly better
