I like that idea as well.  Some fashion designers do include that or sometimes will put it on the MP.  There may be an issue with needing permission to state a hair, skin, etc. designer's shop without permission.  Not sure about that.

One store uses a model that I LOVE the hair so I IM'd the designer and asked where she got the hair and what it was called, so another idea when you really something about the model. :)

Hi Vanessa, I often receive requests for styling info (skin or hair used in my advertising pictures) and I very happily pass it to the Lady. I also distribute styling cards to my inworld group (especially if I am using a new skin creator or hair creator that isn't well-known). The only reason I don't include styling cards is because shops open and close, designers change locations, so the styling cards would need to be updated. Unfortunately, that's actually quite a bit of work (I've got over 800 items in my Main store).  I do often contact the hair creator or skin creator to ask permission to provide their landmark or MP link and everyone has been more than happy to have me recommend them.

Whenever you see something you like, don't be shy! IM the creator and ask for the info. The worst that happens is that they don't provide it. As I mentioned, I am always more than happy to share!

All my avatars include everything seen but the hair, i do enclose a hair but not the one used for display purposes

I also enclose a note card with a link to where they can purchase the hair shown( and the name of the hair) if they would like to look exactly like the avy display picture.

I second this (bolded part especially).  I want to hear from my customers - if something is wrong, I want to make it right, if they have any questions, etc. I want to know to help.

I had a situation that went on for probably 6 months:  A popular item I sell is copy/mod.  I regularly had customers purchasing up to 6 of them - of the same color!!!  This was primarily via the MP but a few in world as well.  I had the perms listed in the MP plus stating they were copyable in the description.  The sign in my store clearly marked the item as copy/mod.

When I saw this in my sales records, I IM'd the customer, told them the item was copy so only one was needed and if they would send an IM to me to confirm they purchased multiple copies I would refund the money for the extras.  I received responses to confirm and some customers said they were embarrassed to contact me, some thought when the item wasn't immediately delivered via the MP that the order had not gone through and purchased again, and some said, "I purchased multiple copies???  I must not have been paying attention."

NOT ONE person ever IM'd me saying, "I mistakenly purchased two of an item I now see is copy."  Now that I think about it, I do see signs in stores saying that money for copy items will not be refunded (for obvious reasons); in this case, however, I had the transactions records plus the payment to show that multiple copies were indeed purchased.  It wasn't a case of someone purchasing one copy item and then asking for a refund.

I eventually had to discontinue this practice because I refunded the full purchase price of the item while, on the MP, I was paying a commission.  Until very recently I put a statement on the MP description of that item that I could not refund the money for multiple purchases of this item, and gave some info on certain situations that could arise via the MP, etc.

It still amazes me that not one person ever contacted me to say they had mistakenly purchased more than one of the item.  As Arwen said, the worst that could happen is the merchant says no.

Actually many merchants seem to just ignore the customers completely. I think that's another reason why many people don't bother to contact merchants for whatever reason.

Unfortunately I would have to agree.  Almost every person I contacted seemed astounded I had done so and commented that they had never had a merchant be so helpful.

When I read the profiles of merchants whose entire picks are: We don't do this; don't contact me between the hours of..., etc., while I understand that especially larger merchants would be IM'd constantly, I think there are more positive ways to make those statements.  I see a profile like that and I make note to never shop there.

It amazes me they got so "successful" in the first place with that attitude.
