There is no current list of the third party currency exchanges that have passed Linden Lab's Exchange Risk API and are therefore probably safe to use as alternatives to the Lindex.  The most recent archived list, at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Archive/Third_Party_Linden_Dollar_Exchanges, does not include the fmx exchange, so there is no way to tell whether it ever passed that API.  In fact, I cannot find any information about the fmx exchange at all.  That could mean that they have gone out of business, or simply that they are hard to find.  In any case, I recommend being very careful about trading L$ on any third party exchange that is not on the archived list above, and would encourage you to use the Lindex if at all possible.  Lindex rates of exchange are lower than most third party sites, and you can be confident that your account infomation and your money are secure there.

According to the FMX blog it looks like they were attempting some sort of upgrade that killed their connection to SL somehow and still hasn't been fixed.  There's a post on May 11 saying that they're working on "a little upgrade feature" and that it should be working in 48 hours, and then another one on May 15 saying that it's still not working and they're still "working with Second Life" so I've no idea what's actually going on besides that.

I'd been using them to convert smallish quantities of IMVU credits into L$ for as long as they've been operating (almost three years, I think?) and I don't recall ever seeing this big an interruption in service before.  I do hope they sort it out soon.
