Question

I am trying to move a whole isle (including terraforming) to another isle. I am sure I read something about it once but don't' know the process to use to do it. (Who to contact, etc.) I was thinking that Linden Labs  had an option for transferring  all  to another isle? We are trying to replicate  what is on one isle that will end to another that will continue to be active.

The quick way is to select everything as a single coalesced (unlinked) object, take it to inventory, and then re-rez it again in the new location.  I do not recommend that method, however.  Although it is handy, it can sometimes be difficult or even impossible to rez large, complex coalesced objects.  If there are Linden plants in them, if there are too many objects in them, or if you try to rez them in a place where parts are underground or outside parcel limits, you can have serious problems.  It is slower but much safer to pick up well-labeled individual objects or smaller coalesced objects and then re-rez them as you get to the new location.  Whenever I have done that, I have inevitably found that I didn't need some of the old things, or needed to rebuild them anyway, so it was worth taking my time to work slowly.

There are more complete suggestions at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-move-a-build/ta-p/919109 and you can read about coalesced objects at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Building-tips/ta-p/700041#Section_.1

Backing up and restoring Private Region terrain

If you own a Private Region, you can back up your region's terraformed terrain to a texture file on your computer and use that file to restore your region's terrain to its saved shape. This is a great safety net in case you experience a terraforming accident, and it is also useful if you want to apply the same terrain to multiple regions you own.

To access the terrain backup and restore controls, choose World > Place Profile > Region/Estate in the Second Life Viewer®, and click the Terrain tab. Then:

To backup your terrain:

  1. Click Download RAW terrain.
  2. A file browser dialog appears. Choose a location to save to and give your terrain file a specific name so it's easier to find.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Next, you see: "Terrain file written, starting download." The download process may take several minutes. Do not leave the region, and don't make any other terraforming changes until the download completes!
  5. When the download completes, you see: "Finished download of raw terrain file" and the directory it was saved to.
  6. Click Close.

To restore your terrain:

  1. Click Upload RAW terrain.
  2. Select a .raw terrain file on your hard drive that you or someone else saved earlier.
  3. Click Open (or Choose on Mac).
  4. You see: "Upload started." It may take up to two minutes, depending on your connection speed.
  5. When the upload is complete, you see: "Terrain upload done." The terrain changes to the contents of the .raw file.

And like Rolig says, picking up everything all at once is probably a bad idea. Better to do it in small groups.
