Question

This only happens now and then..... and lasts a day or two. It seems to just happen out of the blue. Ive tried different viewers with the same results. Also, I can log into other avatars with no problems at all. It just seems to be mine. And if I log on one avatar on one computer and the one that goes "misty" on me, on another computer, the other "good" avatar see's me a mist also. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

OK your issue is a litle more complex that just "Oh it's this." Here's some various ideas:

If it's happening on one sim, check to see when it happens. Heavy traffic can lead to capping of data, so you wind up being a cloud...

Do others view you as a cloud or is it just you? If others are seeing you fine, it could be an isp/router issue. When it first happens, log out, and direct wire to your modem if you use a router. If you do not, log, power cycle your modem and then reconnect. Keep in mind these are TROUBLESHOOTING steps not solutions ;)

If direct connection works over router, try adjusting some of the port settings. I don't have handy what ports you would need, but I can look for them. If it doesn't work or you didn't have a router and the power cycle doesn't work, then you might want to contact your ISP and see about a new modem as another step.

Another, slightly more risky step is to disable your firewall. PLEASE be careful when doing this. Stripping your computer of that protection can lead very rapidly to an infection. The best way to test this is to log out, disable for the shortest time possible, reconnect and rez in. If it works, log out, re-enable your firewall then go back online. If the issue returns, you may need to reinstall your firewall or reconfigure its port settings.

This is an extremely common problem.  We hear about it here several times a day, and in most cases it's extremely simple to fix.  That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilities here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today.

If the problem is chronixc and doesn't respond to the cures on that wiki site, THEN start worrying about more serious issues.  It doesn';t sound like that's necessary in your case, however, if this is an "occasional" problem for you.
