You are a newbie as long as you consider yourself one, but there are always things to learn.  SL is a complex place and it keeps changing, so there will always be parts of the experience that are new to you , no matter how long you are here.  I've been around for over 5 years, and I discover something new about SL almost every day.   Like, for example, what's a "login nic"?  I have never heard the term before.

I think what you're describing is people (like me) who signed up back when we had first names and last names -- that is, before some time in November 2010.   When I joined we were given a list of last names from which to choose and invited to create a first name that provided a unique combination.

So if I don't use a display name, which I think is what you mean by "SL nic," all you'll see is "Innula Zenovka".   If I set a display name, like "Innula," then, depending on how your viewer is set up to show names, you'd probably see something like "Innula (innula.zenovka)".
