mainland, private land, homestead. what is the difference?

I want to rent a private place where i can put my castle and all my stuff.

I want it to be private and i need about 2500 prims.

I found nice places on mainland even affordable, but with a lot of traffic and I found very expensive private places and homesteads with practacly no traffic at all.

Can anyone explain to me what is the differance between those when it comes to renting?
