If you want to buy Linden Dollars from the LindenXchange, you must have a payment method registered, i.e. a credit card and/or paypal. And yes, these are taken from your real life bank account. Read below to understand how this works:

As Valerie already said: If you actually BUY Linden Dollars, you will be charged with real life money for it. If you work inworld and get Linden Dollars for that or somebody else gives you money, then of course not.

If you use your Credit Card in buying Lindens L$ then yes you will be charged with real life money. But if you work inworld like Ansariel said you can earn L$ without using your RL Money . You can be a Host, DJ, Land Agent, Photographer etc..
