Question

I've come back to SL after a bit of a hiatus, (five months).  I reinstalled the viewer yesterday, and ever since then I've been crashing a few minutes after logging in.  It let up a bit last night and I was able to stay in one place as long as I didn't tp anywhere.  If I tried to teleport, I would crash after arriving at the location.  No error messages - these are silent crashes and I'm not aware I crash until i realize I can't walk.  I have a strong internet connection and I know my computer and graphics card are more than adequate.  It seems that it has gotten worse this morning - whereas yesterday I was able to stay in the region I logged into, Now I'll crash a minute or two after I log in, with or without TPing. I thought it was possibly because I didn't have many GB of storage left on my computer, but that isn't the problem.  I cleared the cache as well, lowered the graphics and draw distance, and turned off antialiasing.  I've tried just about everything I can think of, but I'm not incredibly tech saavy.

Hopefully you guys can help me solve the problem!

EDIT:

I'm using SL Viewer 3.  I switched to Pheonix Firestorm to see if it has made any difference, but it hasn't.

System Specs:

Internet Connection: DSL

Operating System: Windows 7

Computer Memory: 102 GB

Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT with latest drivers installed

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.1 GHz

DirectX 11

1.  Which viewer are you using?

2.  What are your system specs?  (you can easily get these from Help/About Second Life on the login page.)

Update your post by clicking Options/Edit in the upper right hand corner.

EDIT:  Those specs sound OK for SL.  Your graphics card isn't powerful enough to reliably run shadows and depth of field though...if those are enabled in your Preferences/Graphics settings, turn them off.   Next thing to do is check your router, port settings, and your internet connection.

What you're describing sounds like some sort of connection issue. There may be compatibility issues with your router. Do a search for "Second Life" and the brand of your router and see if anyone else is having issues with that brand. Some ISP's use various throttling schemes, etc. that will cause problems with Second Life.  Also always connect directly to your DSL router with a cable instead of using wireless.

Sounds like a router issue to me too. Disable HTTP Textures in the Develop Menu (CTRL+ALT+Q) as a first measure. That may fix it without doing anything else. My router does not like HTTP Textures and I have to use the original UDP Textures otherwise I crash after a few minutes when it tries to load new textures.
