I just upgraded my account abd dont want the house. So where do I get the land instead???

I upgraded and I say that I didnt have to take the house but I could get a 512 in land. Where and who do I get it from??

You have to find it yourself. And then buy it.

Note that owning a Linden Home gives you 117 prims to work with (the house doesn't count towards that). If you buy 512 sqm., 117 is what you get.

ETA: Also note that your tier allowance is for mainland, not for land on a private region, which you would be renting from the owner (at an additional charge, unless they're very very generous).

Besides Griff's great answer, if you already own a Linden Home, be sure to Abandon it (stand in home, go to World/About Land, click Abandon) BEFORE you purchase mainland.  Otherwise, you will pay tier for that month.

LL gives you the option to own EITHER a free Linden Home, OR buy up to 512 square meters anywhere on the Mainland, and pay ZERO monthly tier on it.  You can buy more, of course, but then you will start paying tier.  My favorite parcel size for a big home and lots of prims to play with is 4096 square meters...that would cost you $30 USD per month.  But, you can get 1024 square meters (and 234 prims) for just $5 a month, because the first 512 is covered as your Premium benefit.

How to find land:  You have two great tools, the Map and Search.  Open your main map, and click the Land for Sale button.  Parcels for sale will show up in yellow.  Click the $ tag to see the size and the asking price.

In Search, click the Land and Rentals tab, then Show All Land and Rentals.  In the filter box to the left, set to For Sale, Mainland, and the size range you are looking for.

Teleport to parcels that sound interesting.  Look them over carefully, especially with regard to next door neighbors, both at ground level and up in the sky.  Check the Maturity rating.  Don't buy General, if what you are looking for is Moderate.  (Adult will only be found on the Zindra continent, and at a high price.  Not worth it IMO, unless you want to start a sex club.)  If the land is all underwater, you may still like it...water land is good for a floating yacht home, or a skybox, or an undersea residence.

If all looks good, right click the ground, select Buy.  (You DO have to purchase the mainland.  The benefit is that you don't pay the tier...the monthly upkeep...on the first 512 m2.)  Land prices are low right now, and many parcels can be found for $L1 per square meter or even less.  Highly desirable land like protected waterfront or double prim allowance land will be much more, of course.
