Is Second Life only about sex?

Recommended Posts

No, Second Life is not all about sex. 3DXchat is all about sex. Or it was supposed to be.

Then 3DXchat added in-world building. Now they have people constructing and furnishing buildings, and using vehicles, instead of paying escorts for sex like they're supposed to. Management has had to add more materials and props, more clothing items, an environment editor, more control over lighting... The recent updates are mostly non-sexual. They're being pushed by their users into becoming a more general virtual world. It's going to be interesting seeing how this plays out.

How?
It may be that SL now is not as populated as maybe a few years ago, but that doesn't mean it's empty. I think it just.. shifted.
I can still go out and meet a lot of people, by going to events, by going to popular places, like clubs, shops, and hangouts.

Empty people? How do you judge that?

By adopting the mindset that everyone else is always at fault and inferior. If you disvalue others way of life, apperance and entertainment long enough and credit yourself with the ability to see into peoples core (because they are so shallow and simple), you can only come to that conclusion.

Dunno, I'd just say they're pretty focused on what they enjoy. I mean, I get there's a disconnect between people who only come to sl for sex, and those that come to it for more, but I would not go as far as calling them empty, since, well, people ARE complicated. That's what I like about 'em! Empty, too me, is derogatory. And that ties in pretty well with Syo's post.

Sex in SL is just a mirror of what Internet was born for. Ugh, disgusting humans. SL is only about money now, like America. :)

Wasn't the internet born to as a communication-network for some scientists? At least that's what I've heard, I might be wrong, though.
And.. uh... Has there been a time when where SL was some sort of non-buissness thing? Oo

Given the frequency that humans think about sex, the lengths and expense they go through  to pursue looking good for potential sexual partners (I’m thinking Torture Heels, salon visits and Impractical Underwear) - why is it surprising that SL reflects something that is embedded so deeply in the human condition?

Exaggerations, I suppose. Limits of the common sense, not censorship.  Nothing wrong in have a partner, make virtual sex, have a bond of love, friendship, being sexy. What I think disgusting is receiving IM about sex just because, I lost count of how many times I've blocked disgusting man. But i'm not gonna generalize.

And i'm not gonna compare the economy of 2006 SL and now 2018... It's absurd.

SL is what you make of it. It's not hard to keep yourself from adult content, but it's true that it sells a lot because of the the majority of humans having sexual needs. So if someone wants a PG SL, they'll have a PG SL. Of course eventually a weirdo may cross paths, but it won't become a rule.

Oh this topic ,,,,,,, I feel the same way, so many men approach me and ask for sex  ,, in the most crude words, I try to dress nicely , have my avatar all mesh with bento head and vista
AO, as I love to look nice. I never wear *****ty things, some are sexy but never *****ty.

I have also left SL for years to come back and start all over. Right now I just try to go to lovely sims, nature types, however that is lonely. Clubs I avoid, I have a zooby baby

I had in inventory for too long and have brought her back, ( btw I didn't use that mama alpha thing, just bought her no sex) She gives me things to do, but I want nice friends

to hang out with, converse, listen to soft music, and I love to dress up and find places not clubs but lovely areas with dance poses to dance in my formals.

Alas, too many men are in SL for sex, I wonder is their RL is void of such? I don't stay in long now too boring, and I have paid real money into SL . Have had land, homes, and this baby

I have never built anything, not sure that would be of any interest to me. Meeting people from all over the world and finding out what they think on many levels does interest me.

From religion to politics I am one to dig deep. Not to argue but to learn what others think.

And, I would not share a RL picture with this world full of creeps, I mean RL world.  Good luck ,,,, and I hope we both find things in SL to keep us from giving up.

to all a wonderful day .

So let me get this straight.

1) Sex  in SL is just a mirror of what the internet was born for (the insinuation being that the Internet was born for sex, which is easily proven wrong. Sukubia heard correctly).

2) SL is only about money.

If both of your statements are true, then is sex only about money? If so, how'd we get so many people before we invented it?

There is an interesting historical topic about the role of prostitution in dissemination of wealth in the US westward expansion, especially during gold and silver rushes.

While money can get you sex and sex can get you money, they are not the same.  One is a noun and the other a verb.  Goods and services.  They are no more alike than bottle of rum and getting your lawn mowed.
