During the upload process you should see a physics tab. That tab allows you to adjust the type of collissions you need for the object...

Here is a breakdown of those settings http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh/Decomposing_a_mesh_for_physics_shape

as well as you may want to read through this post below . Others have taken the time to explain in detail.

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/Understanding-Physics-with-Builds/m-p/1464037#M13127

Other options also include making separate physical objects for your collision sufaces, that can be included during the upload process..

On the Physics tab set Level of Detail to High . On the next spot below for method. Chose  Solid and then click analyze, Then do step 3 and simplify...... Do not close holes or you will not be able to walk thru door ways... Play around with it . See what works for you best

EDIT: Keep in mind after doing this. when you upload and rez the item in world. you need to right click and go to Edit mode, Chose the "Features" tab and change the physics shape from Convex Hull to "Prim" And you should be able to go thru the openings after that.

Dilbert pretty much covers all the options - good answer that man! - I just wanted to stress that for an  object as complex as a building, where you expect people to walk inside it, up and down stairs, through doorways, etc. a physics model is pretty much essential.

Incidentally - http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/bd-p/Mesh is the best place for questions about mesh
