Luc Starsider
Is it ok if I tag along here? At least until I figure out what you guys are talking about? I promise to stay out of everybodys hair. Knowl Paine
Welcome aboard! :smileyhappy: The idea is slowly taking shape. Plenty of work yet to be done. I will be in SL later to establish some first contacts. If any person has an idea of how to help, I would love to hear it.
Tamara Artis
Welcome Luc! We would like to make as many as possible second life characters snapshots and put them all together, in a way that we agree. To show how different and unique we all are:)
Luc Starsider
Thanks Knowl, Tamara! I'll just go stand over there <<<<< and try to catch up. That will probably take a couple of days, I think. You guys talk a lot!!! - Luc -

Peggy Paperdoll
Sure you can tag along.........the more the merrier. Don't feel bad about trying to get your head around what we are talking about.........I thought I knew, but now I don't think so. A group photo, to a collage, to a shape collage. Displayed in-world to a web based display. That's just the major shifts I've seen over the 24 hours I've been reading this thread. I guess it's time to say where I'm at right now on my understanding. We are no longer thinking about a "group photo" (that's probably a good thing since it could be done but it would be extremely difficult). We are between a collage in the traditional sense and a shape collage (or photo mosiac). The shape collage/photo mosiac is a great artsy idea but the photos are going to get lost in the art instead of being the subject of the art.........that's my thoughts on the idea. We are also between an in-world display and a web based display. I'm in favor of the in-world display even though it is a little more difficult to do. If we want a web based display then a Flicker or Photo Bucket page is all that is needed (plus isn't that just like the "Flicker Picture of the Day" thing we all see on the Blog section of these forums? It is easier though and might get more views but this is a project about SL and if it were in-world instead on the Internet it makes more sense to me to have the project based in-world (but I'm not a fan of Market Place either to take that with a grain of salt). Tamara Artis
Ok I'm inworld, asked few people, all think its a great idea and want to be in! Maybe we could spread some voice around, advertise and collect as many as possible. Then start to make those snapshots. Also, we could make it on a web page first, then laters transfer inworld. Luc Starsider
Cool, Peggy. Yeah, that's the impression I got from reading the OP and a few posts on a couple of pages near the last page. Things change quickly... It's going to take a while to find out what has been said and suggested... My immediate thoughts is that I agree about an in-world display. I'll see if I have more to contribute tomorrow. - Luc -

Dresden Ceriano
Okay so, I've been following this conversation and was waiting to speak up until I could figure out more precisely where you guys were going with this. Finally, I have a few suggestions: As far as where to collect the photos, you could start a Flickr group. Now, having never had a Flickr group, I have no idea what storage capacity is available with one... though I'd think it's quite likely that you'd need a premium membership to have anyway thing close to what you would need. As far as editing, the only way I can see having any sort of consistency would be to have one person be in charge of editing, an editor in chief, if you will. This person would be the one to make sure that all the pictures are processed correctly (meaning ready to add) by the other members of the editing team and they'd also be responsible for the merging of the images together and creating the finished product, to whatever specifications are finally decided upon. Just these two things would be a major job on their own, which is why I'd suggest that this person not have to edit any individual pics, but put their time, effort and artistic abilities into supervising the process and creating the final piece. As far as displaying the photo inworld, I'm not sure how it works really, but could media on a prim be an option? My thinking behind that is that linking it directly to the image on the web would enable you to edit the pic and have the changes be automatically updated inworld. This would be especially useful if you were to decide to display the photo in more than one place. Now, I know a thing or two about Photoshop, so I would definitely be willing to help out with the editing, as time permits. Meanwhile, I'll do some research on the Flickr groups and let you know what I find out. ...Dres ETA: It seems as though Flickr groups rely on people having an account and the pics are just shared with the group from those individual accounts. So, on the plus side, there's no storage limits; on the minus side, if someone wants to share a pic with the group they need their own account. That may limit participation considerably. Luc Starsider
(still trying to catch up...) I was also thinking of MOAP as an option. Then the display could be both on the web and in world - which I understand has been part of the discussion. Another thing I started thinking of is the resolution needed to display the picture/s? Are we making one picture in the end? Keeping in mind that a single texture in SL can be 1024x1024px at most. What level of detail are we looking for? Do we want to count peoples nose hairs or spot someones unplucked eyebrow? Will it be necessary to split the picture in to several textures? Maybe MOAP would be the answer to this? (If any of this makes sense...) I agree with you on the editing part. One person should be in charge if nothing else. As you say, editing everything is a big job. /me goes back to reading to find out how much have already been said, and what I haven't understood yet... - Luc -
Knowl Paine
I have Founded a support Group, and invited each Resident in this thread who has expressed an interest in participating. I was able to meet with Charolotte, and we made some progress in forming a starting plan. I was only able to chat with Peggy in IM, but we had a lengthy discussion that provided additional direction. We are still in the planning stage; waiting for the arrival of the remaining Residents currently invited into the support group. A main Group or promotional Group has been created, the Group is open enrollment. Both Groups should be showing in my profile or Charolotte's. The Volunteers should look for an Invitation to the Group, if you have any questions or didn't get an Invitation, you can contact one of the Group's Officers for an Invite. We will begin communicating to one another about the project in SL. ty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This thread is Open for comments :smileyhappy: ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Dilbert Dilweg
I joined the group this morning. Thanks for the invite Mr Paine. So Did we come up with a final idea on how we will put the photos together.? The mosaic set ups are cool . have the eye and hand shape Yes I am sure we will have to organize Editors in Cheif so to speaks titles etc. Hopefuly it doesn't become too overwheling for 1 person, I should be around a lot this weekend to group chat in world if needed. Glad you could join in Luc and Dres
Irene Muni
I have joined the Avatar Photo Group (the open enrollment group). I have problems with meeting inworld (you can imagine my problem with English language LOL). But I can advise about this project to some Spanishgroups and Spanish-speaking residents. And translate information etc.

A kiosk could be set up, the camera would take one photo of each Avatar in front of a blue screen. UncommonTruth
I think the mechanics are gonna have to be left up to people who aren't me lol.. but I'll take photos if we go that route. I do at least know basic editing :smileyhappy: I'm still stuck on it looking like a group shot. I love that idea. The hippiestock photo is one of the coolest SL shot's I've seen. I like the 100 avatar project that was linked on this thread too.

Tamara Artis
Yes I like his too! Looks awesome but it would take alot of time to edit it and make it look right. Every person should use same windlight so the shadows match. And we need to agree of how much editing is going to be there, for every snapshot. Also, I'm going to try and make a notecard with instructions for people who are going to submit their own snapshots. But first we need to set the size for the snapshots. Would be good if we all could meet inworld and discuss everything, just to have all in one place. I'll try to be online today till about 5pm slt. And I am 9 hours ahead of SL time lol
