On April 14, 1912, the British liner RMS Titanic collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic at 11:40 p.m. ship's time and began sinking. (The ship went under two hours and 40 minutes later with the loss of 1,514 lives.) :(

And on this day in history April 13 2020

What calendar are you using?

Best I can tell, for everyone else, it is currently either Tue, April 14th or Wed, April 15th.  Today you think it is April 13th and yesterday you thought it was April 12th.

Today isn't over yet.  If anything happens today I will be more than happy to post tomorrow.  But I get the feeling absolutely nothing will happen today.

On 15th April 1989, 96 football fans went to a game and never came home. Their murder became one of the biggest cover-ups this country has ever seen

This year obviously the memorial at Anfield (it was to be the last one held there) cannot go ahead.

Here is a previous memorial

I'm not a football fan or a Scouser, and I was too small at the time to know about it, but I get tearful whenever I think of that tragedy. Just the idea of people going out to enjoy a game and support their team in a community spirit, and that happened. And of course the beyond disgraceful, downright illegal "reporting" that followed it.

ANZAC Day

Due to C-19 virus, most Australian's and New Zealanders stood on their drives to commemorate this year’s Anzac Day.

Unable to gather in groups due to restrictions, Aussies and Kiwi's lit candles in their driveways at 6am as part of the Returned Services League’s “Light Up The Dawn” initiative.

It was a hundred years ago when servicemen returned from the First World War, and on their first Anzac Day, it was in the middle of the Spanish flu.

4-25-2021    One year after Rudy Giuliani mocks the idea of contact tracing as a tool to get COVID-19 under control, stating that tracing should then also be used to fight cancer and heart disease, the FDA issues new contact tracing guidelines for abject stupidity. Over the ensuing months, nearly 100% of all cases are traced back to two individuals. HIPAA regulations prevent their identification, but 60% of the public already knows.

5/26/2022  After all the other states secede. California, New York and Massachusetts start giggling. President Biden signs into law the Haha Gotcha Act of 2022. Which assumes 3/50ths of the outstanding government debt according to the two senators per State rule.  Tells the creditors to go get the rest of their money from the secessionist states. Introduces universal basic income, universal pensions, universal healthcare, universal education, and no fault accident compensation. Dumps income tax completely, and creates a stamp duty (wealth transfer) tax, a value added (wealth consumption) tax, and a land rates (wealth retention) tax - all no exceptions taxes

secessionists clamor to rejoin the Union, President Biden points to the Haha bit, says nah! and giggles even more

except for Oregon and Washington states. Let them back in because will have to drive thru Canada to get from one side of the USA to the other. Or them secessionists states probably put heaps of tolls on the USA cars and planes, to try and  get that 47/50ths of the debt money from somewhere

That'll teach me to write future history.  I'll stick to the past in the...future.  Um.

A three-year-old's brutal murder begins an unusual investigation

Three-year-old June Devaney, recovering from pneumonia at Queen’s Park Hospital in Blackburn, England, is kidnapped from her bed. Nurses discovered her missing at 1:20 a.m. the next day, and police were immediately summoned to investigate. Two hours later, her body was found with multiple skull fractures. The medical examiner determined that Devaney had been raped and then swung headfirst into a wall.

Two significant clues were found in the children’s ward that would prove helpful in catching the killer: footprints on the freshly cleaned floor and a water bottle that had been moved. Although there were several fingerprints on the bottle, police were able to account for all but one set. These prints also failed to match any of those in the police’s database of known criminals.

Investigators fingerprinted over 2,000 people who had access to the hospital. Still, they couldn’t find a match. Detective Inspector John Capstick then went even further: He decided that every man in the town of Blackburn, a city with more than 25,000 homes, would be fingerprinted.

A procedure such as this would be impossible in the United States where Fourth Amendment protections prevent searches without probable cause. But the plan went into effect in Blackburn on May 23, with police assurances that the collected prints would be destroyed afterward. Two months later, the police had collected over 40,000 sets of prints yet still had not turned up a match. Checking against every registry they could find, authorities determined that there were still a few men in town who hadn’t provided their prints.

On August 11, police caught up with one of these men, Peter Griffiths. His footprints matched the ones found at the scene. When his fingerprints also came back a match, he confessed to the awful crime, blaming it on alcohol.

Griffiths was found guilty of murder and was executed on November 19, 1948.
