Question

i've got a really odd problem. i have a furry avatar with a skin, etc.... The problem comes with the pieces of it, namely the head, paws, footpaws and arm / leg attachments. No matter what i do, the nose and such are a complete black color. my current avatar is a WHITE lion with attached bunny ears that i added myself. The original ears, which are seen behind the rabbit ears, are also black.

Does anyone have ANY idea of what's making my avi look like this, why it's looking like that, and how i can fix it?

BTB - i'm using a Mac laptop, one of the earlier ones. It runs Mac OSX Leopard right now. And it has a 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor... If that helps at all... And i'm running the newest browser for SL Mac...

Hi Road. It would help if we knew your computer specifications. You can use Help > About Second Life on the login screen and copy/paste the details into your post using Options > Edit to the right of it. In particular, what graphics card are you using and what driver?

There were issues before relating to all prims appearing black. Is this bug you have only affecting the specific prims you mention or other prims too? What happens if you reduce your graphics slider a notch to reduce the load on your graphics card or disable atmospheric or basic shaders?

It is possibly a graphics card driver issue. Have you tried updating it?

To find out what graphics card you have:

Select Start Menu > Run

In the command box type dxdiag and press ok

Click the Display tab in the window that opens

The top line under the section Device should give you the graphics card manufacturer and card series

If you have a desktop with AMD (ATI) or Nvidia graphics card, use these links:

NVidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?

AMD/ATI: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Input the details of your card or use Nvidia's auto detect utility if a Nvidia card.

AMD/ATI's auto detect utility is available here http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

You do not have to uninstall Nvidia drivers before installing new ones but it is most definitely recommended to avoid any conflicts. You do have to uninstall AMD drivers before installing the new one. However, it's very simple and AMD provide helpful videos on that link.

If you have an Intel integrated chipset, use Intel's driver detect utility at http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?redirector_count=1&

If you have a notebook, you may need to download an updated driver from the notebook manufacturer's website, depending on the card. For AMD Mobility cards in laptops, refer to the links on this page http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx
