Save the Date for Winterfest 2010!

Are you ready for the best (and busiest) time of the year? Be sure to mark your calendars for some fun this holiday season at Winterfest 2010: Friday, December 10 through Saturday, December 18.

Hosted on the Global Online Hockey Association’s (GOHA) six wintry regions, and featuring activities and events put on by numerous communities from around Second Life, Winterfest offers plenty to do, see, and pummel with snowballs. Whether you like snowboarding, playing hockey, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, ice skating, scavenger hunts, winter carnival rides or simply listening to some live music, we think you’ll find just what you’re looking for to get you in the spirit of the season.

By popular demand, we’ll be bringing back the annual Lindens vs. Residents snowball fights. If you’ve ever had the desire to throw something at a Linden, this is the event for you. Bring it on, everyone. We’ll be ready!

Need a new pair of ski pants? Got some for sale? The Winterfest category on the Second Life Marketplace is a great spot to look for new items to help you get outfitted for the season. Merchants with winter-themed content are welcome to post their wares to the appropriate sub-category for gift-giving and retail therapy enjoyment. We’re offering 13 different sub-categories under Winterfest for easy searching:

Curious about what else is going on in Second Life to celebrate the season? Take a look at the Winter events channel on the Destination Guide. If you’ve got some ideas for more wintry fun to add to the channel, then take a look at our call for submissions blog post for winter activities.

We’ll be announcing the full schedule of Winterfest 2010 events very soon. So, until then, bundle up, lace up your skates, and get ready for a full-fledged winter extravaganza!

I'll be reporting on Second Life Winterfest 2010 CE/EY 1010 EE on ELITE 3000 Today, a multi-virtual world news show in which it includes reports from Second Life. It can be found on the ELITE 3000 Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/rynprov and I will be interviewing SL Residients on Winterfest 2010 once the event is underway.

"Lindens vs. Residents snowball fights." Like totally YEAH! I am so there! Just tell me where and when. This will be my first winter in SL and it sounds like it is going to be very exciting!

@ Delby Linden

The Winterfest category on the Second Life Marketplace

Humm.. that tiny URL just took me to a bunch of normal garbage not related to anything "snowy" or "seasonal"

Might want to check that, also I got an java error at the bottom of this page.

first try failed (arabian tent...), second try worked

btw, half of the content listed under "music" smells like copyright infringement...

Would be nice if the sims taking part are added to the destinations for the SL Web Viewer Beta.

So..  what is the difference between the Christmas and Winterfest categories?  Will I be getting more traffic if I list in the Winterfest category, or  keep my items in the Christmas category?

And nice to see the link was fixed, and the first items on the front page are by Allegory Malaprop. Good to see she is back.

Hmm.  Winterfest has been reduced greatly in length this year (doesn't even last through Christmas) and it has been outsourced to a collection of non-linden community partnership regions devoted to hockey with little unoccupied space.  The Winter Festival... Or is it Wintersfaire... or is it Winterfest?  Sure isn't what it used to be when it was hosted in Zermatt, Wengen, Voss, etc.

If they are already in Christmas, my advice is leave them there. I say this because I changed categories of some items to Winterfest, and they no longer show in any category browse. They only show if I link directly to them. I have a ticket into LL about this. Happy Holidays

Nice going Linden's while they just chould fix broken things Linden Lab is now trowing snowballs at its customers instead of replying to support tickets.

List of things that needs to be done:

1. For the love of god dump viewer2 compleetly!

2. Recontunue development of Snowglobe directly!

3. Reply tickets for ones!

4. Reduce the simprices instead of freezing them, Ill pay 295,- USD Not L$ for my sim every month thats way to high Estate owners cant hardly deal with the cost even if this sim is full profit is less. A advice let SL grow by reducing tiers.

5. Deal with server lagg, Linden Lab is putting way to much simmulations on 1 host, My sim is joined with freaking 7 mainland regions on 1 server i mean come on you really think you can blame customers pc's for this?

The list is way longer i didnt toke the time here to list it all Linden Lab will not even read this anyway a poor shame they do seems to read Twitter or is that just so the bloggs keep clean from all the people that dont like viewer2? hmmm think about that chould be compleetly true.

@Keli : Keli you have no idea what your talking about, Do you really think trowing snowballs in a region with over 50people will be exiting to do? Ill say this about that happy crashing!! and i do hope that you not trowing at the Lindens they are allready lost in their heads lately please dont make things harder for us residents then they allready are because you never know what they are up to next.

At 15 replies they probably do have SOMEONE reading it. And well said Bigger, I agree on all points. Can the Linden snowball fight land be set to damage please?

Yeah, you never know if "trowing" snowballs in a region with over 50 people will be "exiting".

Even with how much the world has grown, I'm glad to see community traditions like this continue.

Oh! If you've never seen a Linden inworld before, we're not just mythical creatures... here's your chance. Don't forget to ask for our bears. Most of us are photo-friendly if you want to take snapshots with us like we're Santa Claus. Maybe right after you wallop *snowball thud* AHHHH MY EYYYYYYYYYES
