Mainland Tour : Snowlands

Destinations

Mainland Tour - 3.jpg

"The ONSR will bring us to our starting point for exploring the Alpine Routes in the Snowlands, a subcontinent at Sansara. We will pass by Chalet Linden and various other points of interest. To top it all off, we will test our skills to raft through rapids on the fjord before we finish our tour at the Winter Cove Community." Read more on the blog.

"In  2017 I visited the Butterfly Conservatory, the work of Ry Heslop. I found it to be an engaging visit – one you can read about in Of lepidopterans, owls, bugs and honey in Second Life. I actually lost track of the conservatory a little while after that visit, so was pleased to learn via the Destination Guide that it has made a return to Second life and has a new home and it went on the list for places to (re)check out." "Region Description: You have found yourself on the magnificent Island Kingdom built by Master builder Calein Flux.
Although the sim is currently open to the public, and we encourage others to enjoy the beauty of Sands of Time, please be aware it is privately owned and may be closed from time to time for private events or when the large-scale building is in progress." Read more on the blog.

"Right after I visited Hiraya Township, in Heterocera (mainland), and wrote about it, the place underwent a major reform. Though some parts remained the same, the central area around the train station has been completely redesigned, which makes a big difference for the whole area. I noticed some changes, too, in the village of Amakura, linked to main Hiraya." Read more on the blog.

Science Circle - 3.jpg

"The current pandemic has shown us the real value of educating the public about how scientific principles are applied to practical matters. Social distancing, masks, vaccines, tracing via testing are all practical steps to take in preventing the spread of diseases and all are the product of scientific research. The steps in moving a basic science discovery to the practical use of that knowledge or innovation have always been many and varied." Read more on the blog.

"With the opening on the Alpine theme homes (see: Lab announces Linden Homes Chalet Theme released), Satori and all points north (including Blake Sea and Second Norway) have directly connected to Jeogeot and Sansara (and points north) via Bellisseria. This set me wondering what it would be like to complete an “epic voyage” by either boat or aircraft (or possibly both, and perhaps even with a land vehicle or two) through all or some of the connected lands." Virtual Hotels - 17.jpg

"La Croisette is a famous beach front promenade in Cannes, France, which includes a number of hotels - most notably the Hyatt owned Le Martinez.  A version of both the promenade and the Martinez hotel have now been recreated in Second Life. I went to stay on the day after it opened.  My conclusion is that the destination as a whole is well worth a visit, but I'm less convinced about the hotel." Read more on the blog.

"As yet another experiment in virtual cinematography (and as a nice way to relax), here is a leisurely, 360-degree panning shot that I did while floating in Second Life's Blake Sea—with my draw distance cranked up to 600 meters. The EEP Sky preset that I used while filming was [TOR] HORROR - Bloody moon. I also tweaked things a bit in my video editor, mainly in order to reduce color banding and to make the sky feel a little more vibrant, and a little less grim, than the name of that aforementioned preset would suggest." "Good old mainland in Second Life holds some precious jewels — and Hiraya Township, located in Heterocera Atoll, is one of those invaluable gems. With different areas for visitors to enjoy, it occupies the entire region of Bedstraw and extends into some neighboring sims. Although it is mainly designed as a Japanese urban zone, the place nicely articulates with parks, natural areas and adjacent initiatives which include even a space station for those who want to venture into outer space." "Back in October when I started this website, I just missed out on a number of Second Life Hotels, which had closed for the Winter season. One of those was the Royal Bali Resort, which from the website, looked amazing. At the time, Royal Bali's owners transferred the reception and spa area onto a much smaller plot of land in a sailable sim, and kept that part open for visitors." Mainland Tour - 2.jpg

"On the official SL Wiki site, the history about the Okemo, Nakiska and Southern Railway (ONSR) is pretty clipped: "ONSR was initially a private build, mostly built by Veronica Quackenbush. She acquired the right of way through several sims over several years. Kitto Flora scripted the cars and switches in Smithers Sim for her. Later, Kitto Flora was temporarily commissioned by Linden Lab to build the extension of the ONSR to the Wengen Sim."" Read more on the blog.

"Beira da Ribeira, by RioSisco Productions, mixes one of the most interesting promises of Second Life – the one of taking its residents into amazing journeys – with the idea of using the platform for reflecting on present and momentous questions, such as the place of the Amazon rainforest in our days. And it does so by presenting us a scenery which is, by the mere placement of its elements, already full of stories, narratives or statements." Read more on the blog.

"Depending on where you are in the world, your local weather is gradually approaching summer or winter. For some of you, it is saying goodbye to snow or hello to snow and the weather that comes with it. Some of you will be saying, “OMG, No more snow! I’m tired of the snow!”, while some of you will be looking for that snowy escape." Read more on the blog.
