Happy Birthday to …. Second Life!

While it’s only the middle of May, June is fastly approaching and the time is now to start planning your Second Life Birthday celebrations! As in past years, we’ll wrangle the best of the best in Second Life Birthday events and corral them into a special SL11B category on our Destination Guide during the month of June.

If you are planning an event that commemorates the occasion - submit your event or party information to the Second Life Destination Guide Submission Form (use the misc category) or via editor@lindenlab.com, using “SL11B” in subject line on the form or email.

There’s also the Second Life 11th Birthday Community Celebration - a resident-driven event that promises tons of amazing fun and excitement for everyone. If you’re interested in being part of SL11BCC and applying as an exhibitor, performer, or volunteer, be sure to submit before the deadline - Tuesday, May 20th at noon Pacific.

As the birthday approaches, watch this space for more information - we have a surprise or two planned as well!

Are you ready to party?

Linden Lab

It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through the month already - but we’re still in full party mode for Second Life’s 10th Birthday.

To start - there is an all new party pack available on the Marketplace, chock full of great celebration items including tasty treats, party favors and a bottle of the celebratory beverage of your choice. It’s free and only available until the end of the month - so get yours now.

Here is a quicklist of the other items available on the Marketplace. Get your goods before the month’s end - then they will be gone for good.

Starting today - Premium members can enjoy a grid-wide hunt with exclusives prizes. Not a Premium member but want to participate? It’s not too late - sign up for a Premium account, and you can join the hunt right away.

Magellan Linden has uncovered an evil scheme by mad Doctor Talpa, to build some form of mind-control machines and take over the world. Magellan is busy building a machine to counter this scheme, but in the meantime YOU are needed to gather materials and components -- and to destroy any of Talpa's machines you can find.

Get started now!

There’s more fun to come this month, so remember to stay tuned and watch our Facebook and Twitter feeds for late-breaking details about limited items that will be available inworld at the user-driven SL10B Community Celebration soon. These items will be collectable, so get ready to claim yours fast!

We realize many of us are still recovering from the Halloween holiday, but the truth is - the rest of the year will creep upon us like the creepiest of Halloween creatures. Winter is coming...and that means it’s time for cheerful greetings, the spirit of giving, and lots of festive music!

Like last year, we’re winding up for a winter inworld shopping event - and we’re now looking for Merchants who would like to participate!

Our last big inworld shopping event for SL15B was a great way for us to see how big these events can be - and we’re adding in some extra space for shoppers, to make sure access to all the steals and deals is much better.

This event, which opens on December 17th, 2018 and runs through January 4th, 2019, is an opportunity to bring a ton of new customers to your brand, offer some of you best items, and celebrate the holiday season in a huge shopping event across several Regions.

We are looking for merchants willing to offer a discount on some of their items (think after Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday deals!) and provide a small non-exclusive gift to holiday shoppers.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please fill out this form as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday, November 27th, 2018. The cut off will be at 12:01 am (SLT) on Wednesday  the 28th of November.

We are excited to host this event and look forward to putting it together!

The holiday season is nearly here - and that means cheerful greetings, warm mugs of cocoa, and the spirit of giving are upon us.

We’re winding up for a winter inworld shopping event - and we’re now looking for Merchants who would like to participate! For SL14B we held a similar shopping event that was a great success for both customer and Merchants alike - and we are hoping to do the same this winter.

This event, which runs from December 15th, 2017 through January 1st, 2018, is an opportunity to introduce new customers to  your brand. We are looking for merchants willing to offer a discount on some of their items (think Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals!) and possibly provide a little non-exclusive gift to holiday shoppers.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please fill out this form as soon as possible and no later than Monday, November 27th, 2017. The cut off will be at 12:01 am (SLT) on Tuesday the 28th.

We are excited to host this event and look forward to putting it together!

Second Life is turning 12 this June, and we’re planning a few extra special ways to help commemorate a dozen amazing years with our Residents! You’ll have to stay tuned to this blog and our social media pages for all the exciting things as they roll out, but today we’re announcing auditions for … (drum roll, please) … the Second Life Music Fest - sponsored by Linden Lab - a two day music-extravaganza inworld to celebrate!

Second Life is full of talented musicians, and we’re hoping to draw out all you guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, tambourine shakers and other music makers to come audition for the festival. All genres are welcome!

The Second Life Music Fest is an opportunity to perform at one of the biggest celebrations in Second Life, and it’s a paid gig!

To sign up for an audition, please complete and submit the submission form no later than 05/20/2015. While we encourage everyone to sign up, it is not a commitment on your part and does not guarantee a spot at the auditions. We will review all submissions and extend audition invitations via email to the designated contact. Each invited act will have a short audition time (5 minutes max) to play and leave an impression on a panel of judges made up of Lindens and Residents. This panel will select acts to be invited to perform at the Second Life Music Fest. Upon completion of a half hour slot at the festival, the designated contact for each act will be eligible for payment (subject to Linden’s terms and conditions).

All Residents are welcome to participate in the auditions as audience members. For those who are interested, the auditions will be held at the Lavender Field on the following dates and times:

May 22nd noon - 2pm (SLT)

May 23rd 6pm - 8pm (SLT)

It should be a few days of great music and good times, and we can’t wait to see and hear some of the best musical talent there is, and spend some time rocking out inworld!

I don’t know about you, but I am a 365 days of Halloween kind of person. I go home decor shopping when others go party decoration shopping, and if I deck a hall, it will most certainly be with boughs of spiderwebs and clouds of dry ice. I know that lots of us feel the same and wish stores would pack up those Winter Holiday decorations for a few more weeks and roll out more spook-tacular Halloween treats.

Now is the perfect time for us to pull out the stops and do it up in a BIG WAY. We’re looking for some of your great inworld, Halloween-themed images!

Share your pics, and your work could be featured in an upcoming email or banner campaign - with your avatar name credited of course!

Share your pic on our Official Flickr Page with the tag “SLHalloween2016” so that we can see all of your amazing work. You may submit as many as you like between now and October 5, 2016. Please include your avatar name in the image description so that we know who to credit!

We’ll showcase the chosen image(s) in an email to Residents, as well as in some banner campaigns. We’ll let the chosen image creators know via Flickr.

Tips for your submissions:

  • Make sure that your submissions are appropriate for all audiences.
  • Layout:

    • The main content of your image should be near the center and to the right of the image - similar to the images you’d see on the Second Life login page.
    • Horizontal images work best.
  • Show your avatar or avatars in a scene inworld - an image that tells a story is going to make an impression.
  • Keep your image free of additional text/logos.
  • Higher resolution images work best.
  • Check below for examples of images that we’ve used in the past.

If you need a little inspiration - catch the Halloween spirit by ghost-hunting some of the frightful haunts already submitted to the Destination Guide.
