Not a Premium member yet? Well now is a great time to upgrade to Premium - for a limited time only, save 50% on your first quarter’s payment for a Premium Second Life Membership subscription.*  As a Premium member, you’ll enjoy rewards like exclusive gifts, access to special Premium Sandboxes, your own inworld home, a L$1000 sign-up bonus, and weekly L$ rewards to spend on whatever you like. Now, Premium Membership also includes access to voice morphing. To access voice morphing, go to this island, and click the pack you want! Winter Wonderland is filled with lights, delights, and snowball fights! You’ll want to stop by one of the portal parks, follow the trail to the Winter Wonderland teleport, and prepare to be transported to a magical place.

Your journey begins in the Village of Lights - a whimsical icy village at the foot of all the other fun to be had in Winter Wonderland. In the heart of this sparkling village are giant gift boxes with some fun gifts for everyone! Once an hour, the village is blanketed in a spectacular fireworks show you don’t want to miss!

From the Village of Lights - there are many festivities to choose from depending on your mood - but we’re sure you’re going to want to stop by all of them - more than once - before the ice melts!
The snowball fight arena has been updated since last year - so you’ll need to plan your winning strategy once more before taking on your friends, strangers, and even a few Lindens atop a hill just outside the village lights. Choose your weapons from the nearby kiosks, or if you’re a Premium member, equip your Premium token for access to the ultimate snowball fight arsenal! That’s been upgraded since last year, too! You’re going to want to level up your weaponry for an upcoming inworld event that you’ll read about here - on the Featured News blog - very soon!
Are you a dare devil? Grab a snowboard and snowmobile from nearby vendors and hit the ice! Premium members can access upgraded vehicles by equipping their token. Hop aboard and race around the four-region wide race track full of bumps, hills, jumps, and more!
Not quite ready to whoosh through the snow at breakneck speed? We’ve got you covered at the Ice Skate Arena. Grab a pair of skates from the free vendor, strap them on, and give them a spin! In the front vendors here, Premium members will find an extra prize full of customization options to fit your style and avatar.
The ferris wheel will give you one of the best - and most romantic - views in the region. There’s nothing quite as breath-taking as looking out over all that glistening snow as fireworks go off overhead. We highly recommend you take yourself - or a date- at least once for a whirl on the ferris wheel.
In addition to access to all the free fun mentioned above, Winder Wonderland is full of vendors with free gifts for everyone! While you're there - collect them all!

In Winter Wonderland, Premium members get upgraded versions of many of the free gifts in the experience. Just remember to pick up the Winter Wonderland Badge at one of the Premium Kiosks, and equip it before heading to Winter Wonderland.

This offer begins on December 17, 2015 at 8AM Pacific Standard Time (PST) and expires on January 4, 2016 at 8AM PST. To qualify for this promotion, you must 1) have an existing Second Life (“SL”) basic account or create a new account, and 2) select quarterly (every three months) billing for your SL account. The fifty percent (50%) discount will be applied to your first quarter’s bill and future quarters will be billed at the standard Premium Membership price (currently US$22.50 per quarter). Any Linden Dollar (L$) sign-up bonus will be applied to new accounts or accounts not previously upgraded to Premium Membership after the account has been active for forty-five (45) consecutive days.

Linden Lab
Last November - at the Linden Endowment for the Arts Theatre, Ebbe Linden sat down with members of the Lab Chat production team to answer questions from the Second Life Community forums, as well as a live audience of more than 180 Residents. This was the first Lab Chat  - a community-driven initiative with participation from Linden Lab
The next  Lab Chat will be Thursday, January 21st, at 10:30am SLT. Once again the guest will be Ebbe Linden, and the show will be taped at the Linden Endowment for the Arts Theatre. It’s hard to believe, but 2015 is wrapping up already! With the excitement over the recent Bento announcement still in the air, we’d like to end the year by highlighting just a few more of the many ways that Second Life got even better this year.
Tech & Feature Improvements
We just promoted the Valhalla (CEF) Viewer to release. This is a major step (so we bumped the version to 4.0.0) - In-Viewer web content is now coming to you via the latest version of the Chromium Embedded Framework API - it’s a lot like the latest version of the Google Chrome browser you might use on your desktop. This change allows Residents to add web media to their creations using the latest web standards including HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL. We’ve ditched the aging and unsupported Qt/Webkit framework and the myriad of previously unfixed problems it accumulated. While we encourage content creators to move to HTML5 for best performance and future compatibility, various older plugins are still supported.
We also spent quite a bit of effort to maintain and improve the infrastructure. There were 28 simulator releases, Inventory Robustness improvements, improvements to Group Chat, and a major update of the developer toolchain.
We launched Viewer Managed Marketplace this year and rolled out the timely demise of magic boxes. We released updates to improve the Mesh Importer and implemented a resident-contributed feature suggestion to improve and expand the Notifications UI. We added a control to set your Hover Height just right from another bit of feedback.
Of course there’s more to come in 2016, hopefully something for everyone. Just a few things we have in the pipeline are the new Marketplace Search (currently in Beta), HTTP project (soon merging with Voice fixes), the Quick Graphics & Rendering Complexity Viewer, and an update to the Oculus Rift Viewer as well!
 Better Looking Starter Avatars
This year we worked on and launched new makeovers to classic avatars. These great-looking new avatars address some compatibility issues as well as offer better-looking starter options for new Residents.

New Premium Perks
We’re continuously looking for ways to improve the value of Premium Membership in Second Life. Just this year we introduced Experience tools, reduced the cost of monthly membership and stopped charging VAT, increased Group and IM limits, and added Live Chat and extended concierge hours.
Lower Land Set-Up Fees & Grandfathered Transfers
We now allow Grandfathered transfers and we’ve lowered setup fees for Land owners and we continue to look for ways to improve our land products while keeping the economy healthy!
Inworld Events & Community Fun
This last summer marked the 12th Birthday of Second Life, and our Residents put together an amazing community-driven event. As part of the celebrations, Linden Lab hosted the first Official Music Fest - inviting musicians who perform in Second Life to come out and showcase their live music and celebrate a dozen years of Second Life. Part of the fun of SL12B included the release of the awesome T-rex avatar - a hint at what was to come with the epic launch of PaleoQuest.

There’s lots to talk about - and we were happy to join the Lab Chat production team in November for the first session of Lab Chat. Stay tuned for more details on the call for questions and date for the next edition - coming soon!

In the spirit of our inworld meetups like the Creepy Crawl and our Snowball Fight - we look forward to spending more time enjoying this amazing world with you in the new year!
Xiola Linden

Linden Lab
We know how much work, value, personalization and emotional investment goes into a Second Life avatar, so we have always been careful when considering avatar changes. While we want to make improvements, we also want to maximize backward compatibility. Get ready for the biggest thing that’s happened to avatars in years …
Ever wish you could incorporate a tail, wings, or second set of arms into your avatar? How about having animations for facial expressions and finger movements? Yes, we know that there are some incredibly creative workarounds that give you some of these, but they can't leverage skeletal animation, so they have been very complex, often fragile, and very expensive in performance and resources both in your Viewer and the Simulator.
Introducing Project Bento
We are introducing extensions to the standard Second Life Avatar Skeleton that give you dozens of new bones to support both rigging and animation, and accompanying new attachment points! This extended skeleton, which is fully backward compatible with existing avatars, rigging and animation, gives creators the power to build more sophisticated avatars than ever before. The skeleton extensions include:

11 extra limb bones for wings, additional arms, or extra legs. 6 tail bones 30 bones in the hands (all 10 fingers!) 30 bones for facial expressions 2 other new bones in the head for animating ears or antennae 13 new attachment points associated with the new bones We've developed all this in collaboration with many expert Resident content creators and with the developers of the most popular tools for creating avatars and animations, so there will quickly be versions of those tools you can use to help take advantage of these changes. You can view information about Project Bento in the Knowledge Base. To test Project Bento and provide feedback, please see Project Bento Testing on the Second Life Wiki. Demo content is available here.
We take care to balance improvements with backwards compatibility. This has contributed to a "deliberate" pace of important changes to what avatars support over the last few years:

April 2011 - Avatar Physics July 2011 - Mesh June 2012 - Server Side Appearance February 2014 - Fitted Mesh March 2015 - Hover Control December 2015 - Bento
The avatar skeleton changes introduced by Project Bento are not yet final because we want your feedback, either in the Creation Forum or in JIRA. To experience the changes, you'll need to download the Project Viewer and upload any content using the new skeleton extensions to the Aditi Beta Test Grid (most regions on the Beta Test Grid will allow this; some may be in use for other testing and not yet have these updates). Once we have finalized the skeleton extensions, we will enable uploads using them to the main Second Life grid and the real fun can begin!
