All the way from the far-reaching borders of Germany and the Netherlands, Draxtor Despres joins Death Row Design’s Jaimy Hancroft to chat about a little more than just the weather -- in this episode of the Drax Files.
Death Row Designs is a staple in Second Life - providing a post-apocalyptic and dystopian spin on fashion, decor and architecture. Jaimy’s dark, grungy style has made her a favorite of many Residents over the 10 years that she’s been in Second Life, and now she is able to support herself with her brand.
With help from her sister Eowyn Swords - who does 3D modelling for Death Row Designs - Jaimy’s unique and creative work appears in a variety of events from the Arcade Gacha to many of the big shopping events inworld.
Another compelling aspect of Jaimy’s work in Second Life, is her commitment to Fantasy Faire to benefit Relay for Life of Second Life. To read more about her personal inspiration from her father, Mario, and how her culinary flare helped channel her creativity - watch the

Many Residents participate in the LindeX® exchange - trading L$ and contributing to the Second Life economy on a regular basis. As part of our commitment to prevent fraud and comply with applicable regulations, there are limitations in place that cap the trading volume for each Resident’s account at certain tiers.
We have recently reviewed and adjusted these tier limits to better accommodate the needs of Second Life Residents. For most, these changes will be beneficial, and you can review the details of your current trading limits by logging into your account and visiting your order history.
If you find that you need higher limits, you can request a tier limit review through our support system. Simply submit a ticket --> Billing --> LindeX Billing and Trading Limits Review Request (for basic accounts) or Billing and L$ -> LindeX Tier Review ticket options (for premium accounts).

Hello December! With your whispers of winter and smatterings of snow, you delight with your tinsel and bright fairy lights! It seems that Second Life Residents have taken their cue from you, our icy muse. Gorgeous holiday decor is in full glory — so now is a wonderful time to explore landscaped regions all over the grid.
The Destination Guide has kept its elves busy, plucking some of the cream of the crop to highlight this week. Now, I am not one to gossip, but you might want to get out there and practice your snowball launching arm. I may or may not have heard word that a certain snowy showdown is sure to show up on your radar, and you don’t want to get caught without good snow-pelting form. Just saying!
Don’t forget to share pics of all the magical beauty you encounter to the official Second Life Flickr.
We’re always looking for new events and places to add to the guide, so please submit your spot.
As we blogged back in the Summer of 2014, gambling is strictly prohibited in Second Life and operating or participating in a game of chance that provides a Linden Dollar payout is a violation of our Terms of Service.
However, games of skill are legally permitted in many jurisdictions, and we’ve seen that many Second Life users are interested in playing such games for Linden Dollars. We updated our gaming policy in Second Life at that time and opened applications for Skill Gaming. Skill Gaming applications will reopen on January 3, 2017, for those who wish to become authorized creators and/or operators of Skill Games in Second Life.
In summary, skill games that offer Linden Dollar payouts are allowed in Second Life, but each game, its creator, its operator, and the region on which it is operated must be approved by Linden Lab.
Applications for creators and operators will be available on the FAQ page beginning January 3, 2017.
Earlier this month we made some exciting changes to Mainland Regions and Linden Homes. With some massive increases to Land Impact limits, Residents can now build, design, experiment, and create more than ever before.
As of today, we are extending this benefit to Private Estate Regions. Full Regions, Homesteads, and Openspace Regions on Private Estates will get a 33% increase in Land Impact allowance at no additional charge! Now everyone will have more prims to enjoy!
This chart shows the details of the changes:
All Private Region owners in the main channel will notice these changes already, and RC channels will see the update early Wednesday.
We’re excited to bring these changes and hope you enjoy the creative potential more prims brings to your Second Life!
But wait, there’s more …
If 20,000 prims still isn’t enough, starting sometime next week, Private Region owners will have the option to upgrade to a total of 30,000 Land Impact limit - more details coming soon!

Somewhere across the oceans the computers begin to whirr, robots activate, and a sinister land is brought to life. And now, a vast new landscape has opened its doors to those who would dare to take on its creator: the ever menacing Dr. Talpa.
With another scheme in the works, Magellan asked Tyrah to infiltrate the mad scientist mole’s lair and discover just what evil technological abominations he was constructing. However - this being a LDPW experience backstory - it was not long before she was captured. She is now being held prisoner in Dr. Talpa’s command center.
The Mainland Gameplay Regions
The Horizons experience takes you through six regions starting out in the great advanced city itself. Here, Residents are introduced to the challenges that await, so be sure to check out the videos outlining the great adventure. Your journey will take you from towering canyons to dark and deadly mines, all the way through forests and swamps, and finally, to the command center where Tyrah awaits her rescue.
This 5 quest storyline takes you through various challenges laid out by the evil Dr. Talpa. Everything from vicious splorches, killer robots, laser defense systems, the terrifying pet Fluffy, all the way to hidden traps, mazes, puzzles and more! Residents will have to use the provided weapons to defeat menacing foes, while taking on other elements with their own wit.
But beware, saving Tyrah won’t be as simple as conquering these challenges. The greatest adversary you face is the clock winding down to 0. Can you save Tyrah in time? Will Dr Talpa finally succeed in ruling the grid? Will Magellan pay his bar tab? It’s all up to you!!!
New Horizon’s Residential Regions
The Horizons experience itself is not the only exciting new release. Thirty-six, yes you read that right, 36 new regions surrounding the experience will be released for Residents! These beautiful new regions, which abound with exciting features, are adorned with several styles of home brought to you by Linden Lab and the Moles.
Owning a parcel on these lands comes with the ability to rez one of these houses via a special mailbox controller, an indoor control panel to customize the house, and a special resource pack containing handy items to decorate with. The regions feature waterways that flow through areas for easy travel with vehicles, which can be spawned at any of the rez zones found around the info hubs and community regions.
Being a part of this grand new community is something we are very excited to offer Residents, and it’s an added bonus that you’ll be close to the experience itself! Mark your calendars, Residential parcels will commence going to auction on Friday, November 18th!
New Info and Community Hubs
Alongside the residential areas and the experience, lay several community and info hubs. The first of the two, the community hubs, are designed for Residents to use for their community groups, meetings, and events. These beautiful hubs feature a nice, serene environment to be social and enjoy alongside all your favorite fellow Residents.
The second of these two areas are the info hubs. These hubs feature land information, as well as an easy access portal that takes you directly to the mainland experience itself. There are also links to the wiki available which provide access to helpful knowledge regarding the housing system. A mailbox demo and building demos are set up to show you the controls featured in the new housing system. Residents will also find any update information here regarding the housing and mailbox system!
So there you have it folks, the brand new Horizons experience in a nutshell. But don’t expect us to tell you everything; every secret and bit of fun lays in wait for you to experience! So grab your favorite pair of boots and begin the great journey!
Last week we rolled out some exciting changes to Mainland Regions and Linden Homes -- major increases to Land Impact - and that means more prims to play with! There were some questions about what exactly that means.
One of the questions that came up frequently was how these changes would impact mainland use fees. The answer is: they do not! With these Mainland Region and Linden Home Land Impact increases, the only thing we are adjusting is Land Impact (the number of prims) available to those regions and homes.
Another question was if and when Private Estate Regions would see increases as well. The answer is YES - and soon! We are currently keeping a close eye on performance on the Mainland Regions, and plan to roll out Land Impact increases to Private Estate Regions in the next few months. Our intent is to increase all private regions to 20,000 for the full islands, 5,000 for homesteads and 1,000 for Openspace Regions at no additional charge to region owners. There will also be an option to upgrade to a total of 30,000 Land Impact for a nominal conversion fee and a monthly maintenance fee. This should happen within the next couple of months.
This chart shows the details of the changes that have been made to Mainland Regions and Linden Homes, and changes that are coming to Private Estate Regions in the near future.
Patch Linden spoke to Designing Worlds about the changes, which you can catch on our Official YouTube Channel
You might be wondering, “ Fantastic! But, what will I do with all this leftover Land Impact allowance?” We have some suggestions. This increase is one of the ways that we're hoping to give content creators more room to create optimized, performant content. You’ve probably seen content that’s taking one Level of Detail and applying it to the other layers, which results in a higher level of detail than is really available to lower level machines. Maybe you saw it go from a blob to its intended shape - that's usually caused by not having all the different levels of detail, (or possibly having your Level Of Detail in your viewer on a lower setting). We know that multiple levels of detail on an object costs additional Land Impact and we’re hoping to offset some of that with this increase. Of course, you’re free to do what you chose with these new limits!
We’re excited and pleased to be bringing you these changes. Happy decorating!
Halloween festivities have come to an end, but one of the beautiful things about Second Life is that you can celebrate just about anything, anytime — holidays or otherwise! You can drop into one stop and see that Winter holidays are already in full swing, or pop over to a lovely tropical beach and absorb some sunshine. You can hold a group meetup with people from all over, crossing time zones and physical space, or take a solo stroll through a fair or shopping event for some new things.
The Destination Guide does a great job of covering the all kinds of spots across a multitude of categories. You will always find someplace new of interest to visit. Below are but a few of the standouts — some familiar and some new — that you should definitely get inworld to visit.
See you inworld!

New Perk! Prim Limit Increase
Premium members are entitled to a Linden Home and can own parcels on the Mainland. Now, we're raising the limit on the number of prims you can use in those spaces. This means you will have more prims and creative flexibility to decorate and customize your own space. Land impact (object) capacity on Mainland Regions will go from 15,000 to 22,500 - that’s a lot more building capacity!
In addition to this, we will further carry the prim limit increases to the private estate regions shortly. Keep your eye on our blogs for more information!
This episode of Designing Worlds features Patch Linden - talking more in-depth about this new perk. You can watch it on our Official YouTube Channel

If pictures are worth a thousand words, 360 degree images must be worth millions. That’s why we decided to develop a feature called 360 Snapshots that will make it easy to capture and share 360º images from Second Life. Check out some of these samples!
Available now as a Project Viewer, this is a new way to capture these amazing images all in a single click. At the moment, you will need to host these images on a web server to view or share. Instructions on where to get the Project Viewer and how to help and provide feedback are on the wiki.
This great new feature is not yet complete; there are known issues with the image quality and we have not yet added support for directly sharing images from the Viewer - never fear, we're working on all of that. We’re sharing and hoping all of you will check this Viewer out and report any issues you may encounter. We can’t wait to see your 360 showcase!
Available now are three very exciting new features that we’ve been working on for the past several months and are thrilled to announce!
New Sandbox Regions
First up, we’re proud to introduce 5 new Premium Sandboxes! Like other Premium sandboxes, these are only available to Premium members. We have allocated 4 new regions for cross server code testing, perfect for those multi-region experiences; the Blue Steel, Magnum, LeTigre and Second Life Main regions are each Premium sandboxes arranged directly adjacent to each other in a square. Because one is in the main simulator channel and one is in each Release Candidate (RC) channel, when we roll new RC versions of the simulator it will be easy to test differences and potential issues with region crossings.
The fifth new region is called: Sandbox Premium Weapons Testing which, as the name suggests, is dedicated to testing your SL munitions! In the past, weapons testing was done in general sandboxes where it was prone to overcrowding, griefing and instability. It was very difficult to get testing done. Now we’ve opened up more space for Premium members to test their combat gear in a less disruptive environment.
Portal Park 2.0
Next up is a brand new design for our hugely popular portal system! Last year we introduced the Portal Park in our 2015 Halloween Promo, which served as a hub for people to gather and access new destinations. Available now is a dual hub and spoke section that spans 2 regions. Now you have quick access to twice as many of the new destinations on the grid! There are two roads, the Red and Yellow brick roads that will take you to their own main hubs. From there, the spokes or pathways extend out and will lead you to teleport gates to the new experiences. Be sure to visit and revisit these parks as the destinations can be both seasonal and/or hints for what’s to come
Finally, do you need a diabolical trap for your dungeon? Or, to strap avatars into the seat of a rollercoaster for their own safety? Or, perhaps just some basic crowd control to minimize disruptions during a townhall or event? Introducing the LLSit feature. These new LSL functions allow creators to force avatars onto sit targets as part of an Experience. Scripts can move avatars into specific prims, shuffle them between seats, and prevent them from getting out of their chair before it is safe. It is now also possible to prevent Residents from sitting where you don’t want them by setting a simple parameter on the prim. Whichever way you use this new capability we are looking forward to seeing what you create!
With the Creepy Crawl less than two weeks away, it’s time to get serious about Halloween. We’ve been brewing up a wicked treat that’s easy on the eyes and on your Linden wallet. Starting today through October 31st - we’re hosting a shopping event that is sure to liven any dead man’s party! With frights and delights from some of Second Life’s best designers at deals that seem simply insane - this party central for all things Halloween - is your one stop shop ( ‘til you drop!)
Costumes, accessories, decor, and much more await you and your friends in this mysterious haunted village. I dare you to venture the cobblestone paths and see what our vendors have in store for you.
You can also visit these merchants on the Marketplace to see what else they have available.
If the Destination Guide were a bowl of Halloween candy, it would be full-sized handfuls of your favorite sweets. It’s packed with tons of fun-filled treats to check out with your Second Life family and friends.
Later this month, we’ll be kicking off the Shop Til You Drop and Creepy Crawl events — but there’s no need to wait until then to get frightfully festive! Just reach into our bag of Haunted Halloween spots, and surprise yourself.
Scared of all that decision making? We’ve made it easy by shaking our sack of destinations and selecting some of the newest goodies to fall out of the bag. If your spot should be in the Destination Guide, please submit it for us to consider.
With everything decorated to the rafters, it’s perfect photo-taking time! Don’t forget to share your photographic adventures to the official Second Life Flickr .
Grab a flashlight and take a deep breath — the merry mayhem is about to begin!
This episode of the Drax Files is the very first of the series to use 360° for an immersive and innovative viewing experience! You can move around in the video to view the full 360 degrees of the space. If you’re new to 360 video — scroll down to the end of this blog for instructions on how to get started — it’s easy!
Now, back to the show! Vista Animations provides dances, AOs, and other types of avatar interactions for Second Life Residents to purchase. As CEO of Vista Animations/MoCap Barcelona, Vista Barnes owns and operates a motion capture studio in Spain, and employs a small team of three to help create realistic animations that add personality and customization to your avatar.
