Save the date! On June 23rd, Second Life will be turning 21! The 21st annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL21B) will be held from June 21st through July 21st. Get ready for a month of fun-filled days of live music, performances, shopping, and amazing community exhibits!

This year’s Birthday theme is Elements. This theme invites us to explore the fundamental components that make up our vast virtual landscape and the diverse communities within it. From the fiery passion of creators and artists to the fluid adaptability of our social environments, from the solid bonds within our communities to the fresh breezes of innovation that propel us forward, "Elements" is a celebration of the core forces that shape our experiences in Second Life.

We’re looking for volunteers to assist during the celebrations. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a passion for sharing the best of Second Life to help us make SL21B a huge success! 

If you have the Second Life spirit and stamina to promote SL21B events and serve as a guide for huge crowds, we’d love for you to fill out the volunteer application by May 12th!

This year’s Shop & Hop event is our biggest ever - with more merchants, more regions, and more gifts than in any previous year! The countdown to SL20B has begun as we are just days away from opening day! Along with Music Fest, DJ events, and other premieres and performances, we also have some special talk shows that will be aired during the SL20B celebrations. The SL20B Shop & Hop event is the official multi-region shopping event of the 20th annual Second Life birthday celebration. This event brings together many of the top merchants across SL for exclusive items and discounts on some of the best creations in Second Life.

New this year we are offering two types of Shop & Hop regions, Moderate rated regions and Adult rated regions. 

Are you a merchant or creator that wants to participate? If so, then please fill out this form by May 14th. We will be filling in stores as we receive applications so please apply sooner rather than later.

Some important details for participating merchants:

• The set-up for participating merchants will be held June 9-14 and all participating merchants are required to have at least a 20% discount on all items.
• All merchants must provide a new and exclusive, for the duration of the event, non-group gift.
• Items need to be appropriate for a moderate audience.

This year we wanted a theme that not only reflects on where we have been but embraces where we are going. We are celebrating twenty years of Second Life. That is an amazing realization. Who could have imagined in 2003 the vibrant, engaging, and creative community we are in 2023? We are living the future that was only a dream twenty years ago. Now we are projecting the future we hope to see as we move ahead another twenty years as both a community and a world.

For SL20B, we invite you to show us your worlds of the future!

To get things started we are opening applications for Music Fest, to be held on June 22nd-24th. Music Fest will kick off the overall SL20B celebration with three days of live music performances featuring some of the most talented live musicians in Second Life!

To sign up for a Music Fest audition, please complete this application form by April 9th, 2023.

We are also opening up applications for the general performance schedule. Why celebrate for one day when we can party for a week?! We are looking for all types of performers to join the week-long festivities from June 25th to July 2nd. Are you a DJ who can spin up a great party set or a live performer who can jam all night? You might be one of the grid’s amazing Dance companies, or perhaps you’re a Particle Performer? One of the things that makes Second Life so vibrant and exciting is the wide range of performers who share their talent with our Residents. Whatever your medium, we would love to hear from you!

Fill out the official performer application form by May 14th, 2023, and tell us a little about how you roll.

While we encourage all interested performers to sign up, please note that it does not guarantee a spot. We will review all submissions and extend audition invitations via a follow-up note in-world to the SL username that you provide.

At the heart of SL19B are 225 exhibits that showcase a wide range of creativity across the many diverse communities in Second Life. Expect the unexpected as you explore and discover how each exhibit offers its own interpretation of this year’s steampunk theme.

To get started, check out the Community Experiences category in our dedicated SL19B Destination Guide. Not all of the exhibits are listed in the guide, so make sure to visit all nine of the exhibitor regions and walk around to enjoy all of them, and don't forget to pick up the gifts that some of them offer! The Exhibitor regions are: Enchant, Captivate, Astonish, Amaze, Imagination, Astound, Fantasy, Breathtaking, and Electrify.

Wednesday, June 22nd at 2pm PT - Meet the Lindens with the Marketing Team. The Marketing team consists of Feuling, Brett, Darcy, Maveric, Emika, and Strawberry Linden. Thursday, June 23rd at 2pm PT - Meet the Lindens with VP of Product, Grumpity Linden and VP of Engineering, Mojo Linden. With over twenty years of experience in the games industry, Mojo is an expert at building teams and launching groundbreaking games across genres that push the limits of their respective platforms. The SL19B Shop & Hop is almost here -- and this year it is bigger than ever! The event opens to the public on Thursday, June 16 at 10am PT with more merchants, more regions, and more gifts than ever!

This year, you’ll find a record-breaking 400 participating merchants across 20 regions. In addition to deep discounts and deals, there are also exclusive and completely new gifts available for free at all the shops. 

Shop & Hop formally opens to the public on Thursday - but who wants to wait when you get early access! If you are ready to shop now, join the official Second Life Birthday group inworld and you’ll be granted immediate access to the Shop & Hop regions.

This year’s theme for SL19B is Steampunk! Get ready for fun-filled weeks of live music, performances, shopping, and amazing community exhibits! 

The SL19B Shop & Hop event is the official multi-region shopping event of the 19th annual Second Life birthday celebration. This event brings together many of the top merchants across SL for exclusive items and discounts on some of the best creations in Second Life.

Are you a merchant or creator that wants to participate? If so, then please fill out this form by May 8th, 2022. We will be filling in stores as we receive applications so please apply sooner rather than later.

Some important details for participating merchants:

• The set-up for participating merchants will be held June 3-8 and all participating merchants are required to have at least a 20% discount on all items.
• All merchants must provide a new and exclusive, for the duration of the event, non-group gift.
• Items need to be appropriate for a moderate audience.

Your communities. Your world! Every year we celebrate because of you, the amazing and creative Residents who have chosen to call Second Life home. What has drawn you into this world, and what keeps you here? These annual festivities are an opportunity to show us what fuels your Second Life. Let's celebrate that together!

If you would like to participate as an exhibitor with a presence at SL19B, then please fill out this exhibitor form no later than May 8th.

We’re also looking for volunteers to assist during the celebrations. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a passion to share the best of Second Life to help us make SL19B a huge success!

We’re looking for volunteers to help people celebrate at the upcoming 18th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL18B), held June 17th to July 1st, 2021. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a love and excitement for Second Life to help us make SL18B a huge success! If you like the idea of promoting Second Life in a positive way to thousands of people in a celebratory atmosphere, we welcome you to apply today! The application will remain open through May 28th.

Save the date! This June, Second Life will be turning 18! The 18th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL18B) will be held from June 17th to July 1st. Get ready for fun-filled weeks of live music, performances, shopping, and amazing community exhibits!

This year’s theme for SL18B is Hidden Worlds, but don’t think that limits you! Just like last year, your exhibit does not need to stay in theme. If you are inspired by the thought of the hidden worlds around you, show us! Or, share your Second Life passions with us. Your interests. Your communities. Your worlds! Every year we celebrate because of you, the amazing and creative Residents, who have chosen to call Second Life home. What has drawn you into this world and what keeps you here? This year at the eighteenth annual Second Life Birthday, show us what fuels your Second Life and inspires you. Let's go exploring!

If you want to participate as an exhibitor with a presence at SL18B then please join us by filling out the exhibitor form no later than May 28th (this date has now changed to May 10th). Please note that the rules for exhibitors have been updated this year, so it is important to read them even if you have participated in SLB before. The rules can be found at the top of the application form.
