  1. Marvelous work. i remember the old "Pandora Bit" that we often used in SL. Will this script only work for Chat GPT, or will it work for ot Chat AI programs like Pygmalion (since it is free ♥) PygmalionAI/pygmalion-6b · Hugging Face
  2. I am guessing I am trying to narrow down a conversation that is as old as SL itself. However, I am trying to find info that is current, or at least not 100 days old. Some PC issues have required me to replace my Motherboard on my PC, so i am thinking of using this problem as an excuse to upgrade some things. I am looking for guidance, or at least some clarification on things I have read over the years. Just really looking for some current information and opinion. True or false: SL relies more on your CPU than your GPU? I hear this a lot and my experience has sort of confirmed this thought. If I am lagging badly, I can look at the task manager and see my GPU ( (GTX 1060) is doing fine and my poor little CPU (RYZEN 3 1300X) Is howling in pain. Assuming your GPU is average to optimal, does SL rely heavily on your CPU? True or False: SL can not use more than one core at a time, so four good CPU cores are better than eight average ones? I have heard this repeatedly and it sort of sounds "wrong" but not impossible when SL is concerned. Muliticores were certainly not a big thing when the foundation blocks of SL were put into place. I am Looking at bumping up to a Ryzen 5 series and was wondering if four larger cores would be better than say six slower ones? True or False: Two sticks of 8 GB RAM are better than one stick of 16 GB Rm when using SL? Again, I have been told this often and have no idea if is true or why. I would only add that we are talking about DDR4 3600 RAM. Note: Everything would apply to SL specifically. I am not much of a gamer. The Other uses of the PC are basically photo editing and music production. Any and all information is helpful. Thanks!
  3. Has there ever been an actual instance of anyone caught laundering money via Second Life? It is a reason given over and over again for all this. Exactly when and where was a drug king pin or terrorist organization found to have been using lindens to launder their ill gotten gains? There are just 100 easier ways to do it. And if their have been no actual recorded occurrences, then a foreign entity requiring all my personal data seems kind of "fishy" and far more suspect and far more of a threat than an imagined money laundering scheme. Since I cash out, LL already has my ID and my personal info EXCEPT for my SS number. Throwing that in the mix and giving it to a company located in the UK seems like you are inviting crime (identity theft) instead of trying to thwart it. Every bank and government agency tells you NEVER to give your SSN to someone online. This is just common sense. The SSN requirement should be a no go. If the information I give to paypal is enough for them, it should certainly be enough for you! WHy are you requiring SSN when this is known as bad behavior?
  4. If I understand correctly, if you currently have a quarterly premium account (you pay quarterly), you can still keep it that way and continue to pay quarterly. You will just be paying more every quarter. Is this not correct?
  5. Lots of good and bad in here, which I guess is the mark of a good discussion! The main problem is that it is a discussion that should have happened well before this was set in stone, and not after. Again, LL is left being reactive instead of proactive and getting out in front of the issue. That is a difficult position to be in. Everyone seems to agree that land costs need to be lower. The residents have been asking for that for years and LL staff have stated several times publicly that they think so too and are working on ways to do that and offsetting the costs elsewhere. Everyone seems to agree that buying and renting server space should not be the cost of an apartment rental in the mideast US. The problem is that for a typical sim owner who also has a business (which is a status I think would consume a LOT of sim owners) this really does not lower the price of owning land. It is actually an increase. Your just switching revenue streams, but then turning up the faucet. When you take the reduction in land cost which, let's be honest, is pretty small, and you factor that in with the increase in premium members ship and the cost of moving even a marginal amount of $L into a paypal account (a significant increase) you have a situation where a lot of people will actually be paying MORE for their land now, not less. Prices go up and Paypal has raised there fees, but when you compare their fees percentage wise, with what the increase being implement her it looks like you are taking an awful big bite out of the pie via comparison If you really want this to hold up up, you need to cut the land prices more, or do *something* to give this value I want LL to make more money. I think there are dozens of ways to increase revenues that would allow you to greatly offset the price of land, but this plan does not seem to have been thought out well at all. It is actually kind of a big loser for the type of resident you want to KEEP in SL. The ones that makes and gives you money! And to the staff who have pointed out that premiums have not been raised in so long and that premium members have obtained so much for that premium....come on now. First, thank you for communicating with us, sincerely, but the advantages of premium are minimal at best for the typical resident. I know you think you hit the ball out of the park with your new houses and all, but you are still just barely reaching 2015 in quality and value. Painting a new coat of paint on a house with asbestos, does not make it a bargain. Nor do I need 70 groups. In a way, i think you are only encouraging bad habits with that wierdness, then punishing the non premium resident for having good habits. Instead of a gazillion groups, which you admit isa hassle, why not provide more mainland tier with the premium increase. You have chopped up abandoned land laying around all over the place. Make money off of it! Either make premium a REAL premium, or get rid of it and just charge everyone a monthly fee for using SL. There are dozens of other ways to raise revenue and I hope, if you are sincere about reducing land fees to a realistic range, you will really look across the board at what you have to tinker with and really talk to your customer next time and come up with something that really works.
  6. Thank you Nalates for your blog post! Going to try and fix this with your guides. Oh, and thank you to LL for failing to monitor and maintain support and devlopment for Space Navigator (an item YOU tout as enhancing the SL experience!) Pure laziness.
  7. Hello, I jusr recently purcahsed the Spacenavigator 3d mouse to use in SL. I installed the mouse, uploaded latest drivers, and the device works fine in Google Earth and Blender. Once in SL, I go to preferences and turn on the flycam option and click on the spacenavigator default settings and the 3d mouse will do nothing but move camera view forward (push) and move it back ( pull) I have searches the wiki and Torley's videos fora solution, but can't find anyhting. Does anyone else have this issue, ora suggested solution?
  8. I have not fooled with video in quite some time, but I had an idea pop into my head during an event at one of my club's events. I ended up cobbling together some scenes from the event into a music video. I am currnelty limited to controlling the cam with a mouse, and I was using the Firestorm viewer at the time, which I find a little hard to use for video capturing. All suggestions are most welcome, but just be gentle and remember what I had to work with. I had not worked with Adobe Premeir before, but i founda GRAEAT tutorial set at The New Boston. After setting down and watching the 10 quick tutorial videos, i was able to naivgate the program fairly well fora beginner. I can not recomments this tutorials enough. FOrm Adobe Premeir, to learning C++, to learning algerbra, these tutorials are both easy to use and entertaining! http://thenewboston.org/tutorials.php
  9. Niran, is that you?:matte-motes-big-grin: seriously though. Enjoy your machine. Make your mesh with materials and I might even becomea customer.
  10. Prior to slowing down on their devlopment schedule, Exodus had a 64 bit viewer as well. Even though i use Wdonws 64 bit, i am not sure what any real gain would be forma 64bit viewer.
  11. I tried this on my new Nvidia card and thought it wasa big mess, mainly becausee Nivida has no standards for Second Life. I find using the maunal setting inthe Nvida control panle much easier and more specific to Sl, but i would loveto be wrong. AAlso, Nalates article on viewer graphics she linked to should be mandatory reading for every resident of SL.
  12. WHile i will be the first to claim that Linden Labs has an uncanny abilty to screw the proverbial pooch 75% of the time, the implemenation of server side rendering is not one of them. Normally, i ignore these posts, but the OP was so ill informed and more than a bit rude, i had to interject. Server side rendering has improved the performance od SL across the board. Their are issues, the fact that it tends to lose my avi's shape and make it unusalbe for one, but as a new project it has perfomed remarkably well. Things rez faster, Avitars do not fade in and out all the time. I live on a magnum sim that was terribly laggy and lsow to rez, largely due to my love of not wastinga single prim. Now it littrally snaps into view in seconds! For the old farts whining about how they don't want to haveto upgrade to a "high end computer" (which seems to be the term for any desktop built after 2009), you more than anyone should love server side rendering becasue it is taking work off of your computer and putting it on the servers! I will applaud anyonewho wantsto complain about Pathfinding and CHUI till the cows come home, becasue things like that work just as they were intended, which is what makes them horrid. But if you are goingto complain about something not working correclty, at least educate yourselfa little and know what you are talking about.
  13. This issue has just occurred with me twice in three days , so i am goingto try and break it down into probably too much detail. It really is becomming frustrating and i think it would haveto bea server issue, since it spans across viewers once it occurrs. Your editing your shape, and you attempt to save it and you get a message stating that change was unableto be saved and to try again ina few minutes. i am not sure of the exact wording. everything is fine till you try and drag an outfit folder on or relog. Typically, I am a puff of smoke and I get the message: "Failed to find body part named (SHAPE NAME) in the database. Now, you can see it in your inventory. You can see links for it in your outfit folders. BUt as far as the server is concerned it does not exist. This issue will continue if you change viewers. I have tried the flllowing: 1.Wait an hour to see if it would come back. 2.Went to an empty, non server side sim and tried to attach 3.cleared cache, both by viewer and manually. 4.logged off a non server side sim, cleared cache, and logged back in 5.Doing a clean re-install. 6.Doinga clean re-install and moving the cache folder to a new location (RAM disk) Ultimately the shape becomes useless. This can also occurr to alpha layers as well. My advice is to make several copies of your shape and don't edit it on a server side sim.
  14. I have had this same issue since server side rendering began. I have never had it occur once in the two years prior that i have been here. You are working ona shape or a skin and when you save it, you get that wonderful message that the asset server failed to save it, but it should be okay ina few minutes. Wrong. From that point on, your shape is there in your inventory, but when you try to wear it, you geta message that an asset server failed to locate the item. (It can happend with alphas too). You will be told to try goingto another sim on another server. That usually wont work either. Clearing your cache, even manually, will not fix it either. Hopefully, you have saved a shape that is similar form a previous edit. You can put that on and it will work. The shape you want is long gone.
  15. Wow...these are all great suggestions, and relatively simple. I just was not looking hard enough through the preferences I think. I am on 2.67 btw.
