I very recently did a blog poll on my blog asking how many avatars you have in Second Life.  What are they used for? Etc... I think one of the best things about havin an avatar is the ability to have endless freedom in how you style and create it.

Do you have avatars for each specific style or do you tend to use one avatar and style it up with whatever mood that fits you?  I personally have 5 different avatars, and use them for fashion related or photography related reasons, as well as for some roleplay.

My blog poll is here if you are interested in casting your vote on it: http://www.harlowheslop.com/archives/2360

I'm mostly, just really interested in finding out how common it is to have multiple avatars in Second Life. Judging by the poll so far, surprisingly MOST people have numerous avies! :)

Account-wise i have 4. One is never used, one is seldom used, and the other is some male character I built but don't use much

For my primary account of this one - I have too much wrapped up in it to be using the others

For looks - I tend to switch my look often. I used to have a look I settled on for a couple years but lately it varies widely. She is always the bad girl and a fuller figure

Four accounts, scores of avatars.

I've only one account I use regularly though, and I tend to stay with one avatar for months at a time. Occasionally I'll wear something drastically different for a particular theme party, but I isally go back to a 'normal' look. Within that look (shape, skin and colour of hair) I'll have many different outfits and hairstyles, but I don't really consider that a change of avatar.

Four accounts.

One I never use because, well frankly the avi looks like Bette Davis and it scares me.

One I never use, it's male and I'm not good at being a guy.

One is my horse avi, which I am a lot, love her!

And this one, my main, for which I have many avi's. Reindeer, Mule deer, White tail Deer, Buzzard, Crow, Myna bird. All which I use for fun and rp like in Tombstone.

I have 2 accounts - my social main account that I do almost everything with and my leave-me-alone-I-don't-accept-friend-requests alt.  I only use her when I want to be left alone to explore or figure out a new viewer or take pictures.  She is not exactly a secret since everyone knows about her, but she still has no friends on purpose.

Have six accounts ... that I can remember

My two oldest I play around with fairly regularly and another two that were just name grabs when they dumped the last name option.  Then the two newest ones I've created when I felt like checking out what was the newest account creation system at the time. Occasionally I use one of the newer ones to go infohub hopping, I have deliberately not set a home for him so when I hit Shft-Ctrl-H he gets teleported to a random infohub. The other newbie I use for wandering the mainland roads exploring, I forget where I left him.

Only have essentially one avatar for each account, had this account using a starter avatar or well over a year till some oldbies harassed me about it.  Like with too many things I resisted changing this account's avatar but was pretty happy with the results once I did.

Two accounts, second one I created just to have an alt and I have no idea what to do with her.

On this account I have many avatars, including male one which I call "my undercover avi" and I use it for wandering round the grid.

Basically its easier to change outfits then to switch accounts;)

2 accounts, 1 avatar on each. Second is only used rarely, usually to rescue my main from some poorly scripted rlv trap or to listen in on a lecture or speech my main can't attend (my main is a full time nudist so can't enter PG zones for example, or when there are 2 things going on at the same time I would like to listen to, send the alt to one of them and read the logs later).

Maybe in time that'll change, but I doubt it as it would to me take away the main reason I'm here at all: to be what I'd be irl if I could, which is a rather well defined persona and one I've to some degree been rp'ing in online communities for over a decade (though it seems the persona can now finally get to full fruition because of the environment sl provides).

One main, 20 alts and hundreds of avvies. Some of the accounts are my band and their partners; they've all got a backstory of sorts in their profiles. Some were created just bag a silly or cool name others created on the spur of the moment or for neafarious purposes.

Each account has many avatars: furry anthro, cybernetic, robotic, android, alien, extraterrestrial but no humans: I got rid of them years ago. Yeah I spent a small fortune kitting them all out in my attempts to create unique identities for each one.

my definition of an avatar is a uniquely named one, ie the account.  I never considered it a different avatar just because i changed the shape, otherwise i would have millions, since i constantly adjust my shape. The form my avatar takes is not relevant to it being my avatar, right.

With my definition i have 11, mostly for the clone army that i am assembling to take over the grid :matte-motes-evil::matte-motes-nerdy:

I lost count of how many accounts I have, to be honest, but when I do create a new account, I stay with that account for a while, and it becomes my main. I end up letting all my other accounts collect dust, which isn't good because I have actually spent money on some of those avatars. But ah well, as long as I had fun on those avatars, I think it was money well spent.

For my current account, I have two avatars; one for roleplaying, and one for socialising. Both are exactly the same, since when I change skins or hair, they tend to be account-wide, and since the one involved in roleplaying is an urban one, they both can wear the same clothes. However, the personalities are very different.

Harlett is my original account, but I have four accounts.  I only use two.  The second is for a mesh fairy avatar.  I find that switching between mesh and the standard shape is too time consuming.  I like to log on and be a fairy without the hassle.  It's the only alt I've ever found consistent use for....  I wasted time/money with the others.  If I am in human form, Harlett has all the good stuff.
