Custom avatars - how much should I be expecting to pay, and how feasible is it?

Hi, so I'm interested in perhaps having a custom avatar done, as I have tried to achieve this look and can't seem to get it right. I have a human male TV character for a reference.

Depends on what you mean by custom. If you expect people to custom design and texture clothing and or body parts I would guess that you would expect to pay at least $100 US. Depends on the complexity. I could see it running a few hundred or more.

 

If all you need is someone to help fund clothes and make a shape etc, basically a personal shopper it will be much less.

Mainly I'm having trouble finding a good skin, especially one that is close my reference's face. 

 

My budget is around $50 US, although I'd be willing to pay more if I was able to get a result I really like.

Skins are hard because lighting and your PC can make a huge difference. What is your reference skin?
