Well I'm not sure if this is the right place or not to get the answer for this question. If its not can somebody give the right place to ask it.

I know its against the TOS to gamble which also requires wagering money. But after reading the TOS and looking up definitions of the words used, I dont consider what i want to do as gambling per what IM reading in the TOS..

I have a Texas holdem table and what i would like to do, is for people to play in the tournament they need to donate an amount of Lindens in order to sit at the table and play. All this money goes into a pot which is released to the  last person left at the table who has everybody else's chips.

I see not difference than a swimming suit contest that people enter by paying money to do so. There is no money exchanging hands during the poker session only chips that came with the table.

 

A little note here that support just sent me to read the TOS which still doesnt give me and answer yes or no.

so basically its an entry fee into a contest at which the winner at the end gets the money...hmm sounds like what some of the clubs out there are already doing!!!

best in black, best in formal, best in whoever is most popular really..  atleast this type of contest or tournament is fair.  Skill rather than popularity..  sounds good to me.  let me know when and where and I'm in!!

It's not the same as what clubs are doing because they don't force you to put L's into the pot to have a chance of winning.

I suspect it falls clearly in the area of gambling. You're asking people to pay to have a chance of winning substantially more based on a game of chance. It doesn't matter if they are using L's for the actual hands during play. You might, just might eek by if you weren't going to be taking any of the paid in cash as a house cut, but I wouldn't count on it.

It DOES, however, sound like a Sploder.  You put an amount of L$ into it and when it "splodes" you have a chance of winning substantially more than you put in.  I don't think an entry fee to play a game would be considered gambling.

It sure would be nice to get Second LIfe to answer this question. Other wise Im not going to take the change and maybe get banned from SL for assuming its ok to do.  Im waiting SL people, whats the verdict so I can move on and get things rolling.

presumably the vote on photo competitions (pay to enter)  are in that case illegal also.

all silly as far as i see it.

i doubt if you will get a straight answer from our orwellian benefactors....

I don't think that's the point, I'm sorry to say.   The FAQ on Skill Game Compliance say

If a game collects L$ in order to begin play, and L$ are promised when certain conditions are met, the game is subject to the wagering policy and must not be a game of chance. See the wagering policy above for more information 

If you put that together with the fact that the Policy Regarding Wagering In Second Life  includes Poker in the list of "casino games" it's forbidden to play for money, I'm pretty certain that -- rightly or wrongly -- LL would regard your idea as a form of gambling.
