Sounds on Second Life

I am new to second life.

When I walk around I can sometimes hear voices talking (sounds like other users chatting with each other, or music playing. This is not like when I go to a place that has music playing (e.g. I went to an Alice In Wonderland themed place and it had background music). I even hear the voices when I am on an island which has no other people on it. This fades in and out randomly.

 

I have tried turning off sound completely with the icon in the top right. I have also tried going to preferences, Sound & Media and unticking Steaming music, media and voice chat. Still I hear the voices and music every now and then. Turning sound off stops background noises like the sea, streams, birds etc but not these voices. I know they are something to do with second life, not another program on the PC, because the people mention second life.

Please help because this is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure, but  adding to disabling voice chat, maybe you should try to uncheck "play media attached to other avatars" and "play sounds from gestures". This should mute any unwanted voices, sounds or music without disabling sound effects, media and music.
