I am using Ubuntu 12.04, and when trying to log in today (4/10) I got a compulsory update to 3.7.17, which keeps crashing on login. Most of the time I can't even get past the welcome screen, but when I do the view is crorrupted - all testures show as chequer-boards of various sizes (this includes ground, buildings, clothing and people), and the viewer crashes shortly afterwards.

I was able to log in fine yesterday (3/10, up until around 3am GMT), using very 3.5.1 (I think), but it prompted me to install a mandatory update - hence getting 3.7.17 this morning.

My system details are (as reported by SL 3.5.1 and  3.7.14 is **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**://secondlife.i.lithium.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt=":smileywink:" title="Smiley Wink" />

This could be a graphics issue - but it worked fine on 3.51, and the knowledge base post on graphics cards says nothing about Linux.

First:

Install the non-free nvidia drivers, the crappy free nouveau driver will limit your graphics card power to approx 20% of what's technically possible.

Next: Run the viewer in a terminal to see what causes the crash.

Post th eterminal output here, so we can see ifwe can solve it.

I presume it could also be a memory issue, 2 GB of RAM is not really enough.

J.

Ouch! 3.13 is the worstest Linux Kernel.

Ouch! As as Jeanie already said.

I solved it with new drivers.

Rest assured I have a new 8GB Ram 2.6Ghz quad core laptop arriving soon.

The only reason I am using LL is that firestorm was so laggy (and LL was far less so).

And I am using 12.04 as I prefer stability over shiny things - I will get to 14.04 sometime later this year I think.

Now that 14.10 willl be out soon? Anyhoo, cool kids don't bother with *buntu stuffz. Jean and me both are on super stable Manjaro and we are super sexy. I guess there is a correlation. :smileyhappy:
