Amethyst Jetaime
OMG we have to type!!!! Seriously? SL does not provide voice, a third party, Vivox, does.
WolfBaginski Bearsfoot
It depends on Vivox servers, yes, but it also depends on Second Life to communicate with Vivox when somebody new comes within range. There's maybe more that SL has to do, but that's something that ought to be obvious. So there are things that the Lindens have to keep working. Whoever it was this time, it did get fixed

Whoever it was this time, it did get fixed Voice is controlled strictly on the client side. Otherwise it is completely controlled by Vivox. From the SLwiki: The Second Life Viewer handles configuration, control, and display functions, but the voice streams (from the microphone and from the Vivox voice server) do not enter the Viewer. The source code for the external SLVoice daemon is not available due to contractual obligations between Linden Lab and Vivox.
