This week's roll announcement is earlier than usual, since Monday is a US holiday.

Second Life Server (main channel)

The main channel will be updated to get the server maintenance project that was the RC channels for the past two.   This project includes some crash fixes and new features related to LSL scripting and object creation.

Scheduled Tuesday 2014-01-21 05:00-11:00 PST

Second Life RC BlueSteel, RC LeTigre, and RC Magnum:

All three RC channels are on a new server maintenance project.  This project contains a single crash fix.

We will be monitoring this thread as the code gets released, so feel free to note any observations you have about the server updates.  If you have a specific bug you'd like to report, please file a Jira

I have NEVER seen mesh items load this slow. Could something in this release have affected load times? It does seem to depend on how busy the sim is, sims that are more busy are 100 times worse than empty sims but empty sims are still slower than they used to be. In a busy sim it can take 5 minutes for someone's mesh hair to fully rez.

Bleh.

Hi Meastro,

Any idea what the folks running the asset servers did during the maintenance last week? I'm finding sever rezzing issues, object corruptions and freeze ups while object load when entering a sim. Stats themselves look great but the other problems are creating a lot of mad people. Any thoughts? Thanks

Do any of you Lindens actually bother to log in and check inworld after you update the server code to see if it did anything negative or positive? Both Mainland and Estate testing after code rolls would be nice actually using an Avatar that's not logged in from the Office if loggin in from the HQ would not show you these errors.

Hi Jamal, how does the official 3.6.13 release viewer perform?  The reason I asked about the viewer version is because there are currently some RC viewers in circulation with changes that would heavily affect object and asset loading performance:

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers

The 'HTTP Viewer' would affects performance with texture and mesh loading.  The 'Interesting Viewer'  affects performance with object loading and movement.  Either set of changes could have a knock-on effect to other aspects of network performance in SL.  Both project viewers are designed to improve performance, but something could have gone wrong.

I am definitely seeing these issues too. I am using the latest Interesting Viewer which used to load scenes very quickly. I cleared my cache recently and it took 30 minutes to load a scene which is crazy. Looking at the bandwidth on the statistic panel, it looked like I was on dialup.

Sometimes meshs take forever to load. Somtimes textures never load. I am on wifi, but my statistics bar shows 0 packet loss. I have noticed setting higher peak bandwidth (>5Mbs, I on a 20Mbs interenet connection) caused SL to reduce my bandwith for other uses such as web browsing. Speedtest.net shows dramatic loss of bandwidth when SL is running. Lowering peak bandwidth to 2Mbs, restored my normal speedtest.net results.
