  • This is a server maintenance project

Maestro

I see that the Main Server Restart notice has vanished from the Grid Status Page...Ninja editing or a whoopsie?

Also there appear to be numerous forum postings referring to an Escort Agency in the Indian Subcontinent - has the site been hacked??

That seems like a whoopsie to me, Ayesha.  The main channel roll really did happen; even if it were canceled, the post should still remain there with a 'postponed' or 'canceled' update.  I'm contacting support to have them restore the post.

Regarding the forum posts, I see a bunch of spammy-looking threads created by a few users.  It appears that the account is either owned by a spammer (seems likely given the username matching the topics) or compromised.  I'm contacting support about that as well.

Ummm, you are only now first noticing this?

It has been going on for months now.  Spammers promoting web sites for call girls.

And we have been complaining about it for months now.

The SPAM threads have been daily events,  happening several times a day, and outside of the Forum Mods deleting them, it appears no effort has been made to stop them.

Hi Marianne, BUG-4024 was actually only about autoreturn of vehicles - it was not related to 'parcel full' bugs which still exist in the current server version.
One unfixed bug is BUG-4152, which describes vehicles being returned due to 'parcel full' errors, goes as follows:
* When driving a vehicle from RegionA into certain coordinates of RegionB, the vehicle is returned to the owner for 'parcel full' upon crossing if the parcel at the same 'certain coordinates' of RegionA are full.  This should not happen, since the vehicle is not entering the parcel, and vehicles should be immune from returns due to full parcels.

The other unfixed bug related to 'parcel full' and vehicles, only has an internal issue, and goes as follows:
* When driving a mesh vehicle from RegionA into certain coordinates of RegionB, the vehicle is returned to the owner for 'parcel full' upon crossing if the parcel that the vehicle enters in RegionB is full.  This should not happen, since vehicles should be immune from returns due to full parcels.  Straingely, this bug does not affect vehicles which do not contain any meshes.

Maestro/Andrew....ok  fine  can you please give some indication of the Status/ estimate of when we can expect some resolution of all of these "vehicle returned for Parcel full "bugs?

There seems to be a 3rd bug  of  getting parcel full returns of vehicles ...when the parcel is not actually full also.

And it seems to be happening  more often recently.  BTW all of these are vehicles with pilot avatar sitting,,,just in case that was not clear.

Preventing them is probably incompatible with the free Resident Account set-up, though the account set-up process is maybe a bit more involved than for most forum-providing services. One place I post to has a relatively small active community, and has an effective spam-reporting mechanism feeding a moderator-team which takes advantage of time zones, and uses some pretty heavy-duty support tools. And, big difference, we know each other.

The Second Life forums do have effective protection but, as with ARs in general, the results are not always obvious. It's partly a consequence of the size of the group. The core of Second Life Server posters is quite small, and Maestro can fit in with that. This is a conversation, in a way which other of the forums cannot be.

And a lot of that comes from Maestro and his predecessors. This place has a different tradition.

If you're seeing a 'parcel full' message upon region crossing and the parcel location given in the error message would not be full if you also added the vehicle's LI to it, this seems like a different bug than the other two that I mentioned.  If this case is reproducible, could you please file a Jira about it?

It frequently happens to me on a particular crossing. Komaga Take > Oshima. Komaga has 10847 free prims, Oshima has 11595 free.

Plane is an Adventure Air DC-10-30F with an LI of 95. Mostly mesh aircraft.

I did, however, notice that Komaga is Magnum and Oshima is bluesteel. The bug also triggered going from Welsh > Taber. Again, both have sufficient prims but crosses from one server channel to another

Hi MAestro,

There is another problem that is not "PArcel full" but "Region full".

Happens regulary for several weeks ago and a restart fixes the problem.

Can't fill a Jira because I don't know how to reproduce it but I can tell a few place where it has happened beucase I openned several support cases to have Blake Sea regions restarted for that problem :

Sept. 28, 2013, 6:45 a.m. : https://support.secondlife.com/case-details/01771896/

Oct. 25, 2013, 7:38 a.m. : https://support.secondlife.com/case-details/01789151/

When it happens, vehicles (mesh or not) are not returned but can not enter the region and trying to create or rez a prim gives an error "Unable to create new object. The region is full."

Seems to happen since the deploys of 2013-09-23, I had reported it there : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Deploys-for-the-week-of-2013-09-23/td-p/2221089/page/3

and for the bug "of  getting parcel full returns of vehicles ...when the parcel is not actually full also."

I filled a jira a few weeks ago that describes the problem and the way for reproducing https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-4118 but you closed it as duplicate.

None of the parcels I was entering or leaving were full but there was a parcel full in the opposite side of the region I was leaving.

I just tried to reproduce again and it's still happening (Second Life Server 13.10.15.282406)

Message from Second Life:
Your object 'YachtLine 420' has been returned to your inventory Lost and Found folder by you from parcel 'Vik Marina - Second Norway' at Vik 85, 1 because the parcel is full.

while I was attempting to leave Vik region at 85, 255.

I've left the parcel for testing. Rez a boat or any vehicle and try crossing from Vik to Vikhavet through the danger sign here : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Vik/86/242/21

Hi Uggo, this issue is BUG-4152 precisely.

Regarding the region full issue, what triggers the region resource leak?  When BUG-4152 occurs, the region's 'Objects' stat increases by the number of prims in the vehicle's linkset each time the bug happens (although parcel prim counts remain unchanged).  The Objects stat returns to normal once the sim is restarted.  It seems likely to me that a region with many occurrences of this bug would eventually become full by this issue, and match the behavior you saw with a restart fixing the issue.
