The Destnation Guide will tell you which regions have how many people. You can meet people there, but often they are a bit busy with whatever they are doing. Search for groups usng subjects that interst you. Join those groups and the conversations in them. You'll meet people there too. Clubs are of course good meeting places. Pay attention to what crowd a club is catering to. Fill out your Profile and add INTERESTS. People will c ontact you. A challenge in SL is the massive diversity of the people. It can require some filtering to find people we understand and have common interests with. But, we have tools to help us do that. There are dating sites for SL avatars.... Griefers... In some ways being is SL is like living in Detroit or Chicago. People learn how to stay safe. We lern in SL too. When using the standard Sl Viewer there is very little people can do to you. They can crash the region you are in or overload it with span until you can barely move. They can trick you into wearing something that deforms your avatar. But, all those problems can be solved by at worst logging off and loggin into some place different. So, it is not a big deal. You do have to be careful of emotional attachments and tricks. There are people that mess with others on those levels. But, it is not much different than real life. Hippie Bowman and friends host Sunday Breakfasts at different venues each week. Check Hippie's profile for the breakfast group, join it, and pop in some Sunday morning (8AM SLT).
