Welcome to Second Life.

What is it you were wanting to do in Second Life?

Everyone begins with no house and no money. Some people remain with no house and no money. Some people learn skills that make them money. Others use Second Life for recreational purposes only.

Have you learnt the basics yet?

Have a look at this article from the official Second Life Knowledge Base to get you started:

This isn't some kids' game, sweetie.  This is Second Life.  Did you get a house and money when you were born in Real Life?  Well, there you have it: verisimilitude!

Seriously though.  There is no "correct" path to take through Second Life.  There are no goals, no quests, no levels to achieve.  It's not a game, it's a virtual world platform, and you can build any sort of experience that you can imagine on that platform.

Some people go to clubs and listen to music and dance.  Some meet people and make friends (some even fall in love.)  Some just like to shop.  Others explore, and write about what they discover.  Some learn to create things, and if they're good enough, they can make money selling those things to others.  Some buy or rent land and build a house.  Some buy a LOT of land, and rent it out to others.

And some just wander around useless.  It's all up to you!

You don't need no house or money in SL. In fact, many people I know never had either!

There are many free items all around the grid and the marketplace to make your avatar look fabulous. There are many interesting places to visit and many interesting people to meet. Just search for your favorite activity, tv show, community,... and you'll find many places where people gather to do or talk about these things.

Having lots of lindens and a house of your own is nice, but talking to and joining people in the things you love, that's what SL is all about.
