It would be much easier to help if we knew what you are trying to download (a viewer, I assume, but which one?) and what sort of advice you have already been given (By whom? What was the advice?  Exactly what did you try? What are these folders you're talking about?).  It might help if we know what sort of computer you are using too.  There are not many Linux users who regularly respond here, but some of those who do respond are very knowledgable and helpful.  They just need a little more to work with than "I need help."

If you want to provide extra information or need to clarify your question, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do not start a new thread. Doing that makes it hard for us to see what other people have already suggested, and it pushes other residents' questions off the page.

Sure it let you. Did you try to unpack it and then you saw these "bunch" of folders? Open the folder called after the viewer version then and locate the file called "secondlife". Thats the start file you need to double click, then you should get the options to Display or to Run (and some others). Select run to start SL. If you haven't those options you might need to right click the file first and then at properties tick "excutable" (dunno the right term now, because I have it in German) and try again. If all not helps, please tell us what Linux you use as Rolig told you. I use Debian 7.4 64 bit.
