Water and sand always gray and dull

My water appears to be a dull blue,on my moms laptop I can see the light reflecting on the water its more realistic.Plus my sand is always gray.Now I have a Win 7 and my mom have Win 8,do think its something wrong with graphics?

Both depend on several things. The Water, in your environmental settings. It will change depending on your windlight settings. The sand...that's the texture on the sim and not a lot you can do about it. If you see white sand it's either the texture set in the land setting that you can't change unless you own a private sim or there is a mesh or sculpty on it with white sand texture.

Go to World/Environment Settings and set the Water Setting to Glassy and the Fixed sky to Default. The water water should look bright clear and reflective. Depends on also having Water Reflections set to Everything in Preferences/Graphics.

Ok my water reflections settings is diabled,how do I enable it?

If the water reflections drop down box is greyed out and nothing happens when you click on it that may mean that your computer doesn't have the capability of rendering complex graphics like reflections.

In the menu go to Help and then About Second Life and copy the information in the Info tab so that we can see what your computer specifications are.

If the drop down drops down and you are able to make selections but you still don't  see anything reflected then push the top slider to the right a notch or two. It may slow down the overall performance.
