Re: Why do people not like the Lindens?

Reply to Maximillon Lefavre - view message

I never met a Linden who knew the difference between his/her ass and a hole in the ground.

People talk about Linden "policy". The truth is there are no policies, only "guidelines" which is why real life corporations will not do business in SL. I do know one thing, Lindens are not allowed to ban users of SL for verbally abusing them (I have had fun with this many times).

People think Linden Labs are all geniuses because they know how to program. Ask any professional programmer who has seen their code and they will tell you it is newb salad.

You haven't met many, have you?

Linden Lab has both policies and guidelines.  One policy, for instance, is Linden Lab will not get involved in resident to resident disputes.  For an example of guidelines read The Guidelines for Posting in these forums.  I'm pretty sure IBM is a corporation..........I haven't heard that they have left Second Life.  And for your last statement........I wouldn't push that issue if I were you.

People think Linden Labs are all geniuses because they know how to program. Ask any professional programmer who has seen their code and they will tell you it is newb salad.

Who are these professional programmers who have seen the server code for the platform that makes up Second Life.  I'm pretty sure it's not something that is readily available for inspection by anyone without Linden Labs seal of approval.........and those with that seal would not say such a thing to someone who obviously has a problem with Linden Lab (they just wouldn't fit the definition of professional).  And, some day I'll tell you a few of the horror stories my sister (who is a professional programmer who made bank in 1998 and 1999 in prep for the Y2K bug) related to me about the thousands of pages of code..........all done by professionals.

I think you are just engaging your fingers before to hear the tip tap of the keys on your keyboard.......you sure don't sound like you know what you are talking about to me.

PS....take note of the proper spelling of Linden Lab.  There's no "s" at the end.  Singular.  One, not plural.

Some of the Lindens do an awesome job, I can think of two  but not sure if it would be appoporiate to name them here so I will not  I will echo the argument that the problem is the management, In the last five years The company has not made a single coherent business decision. I understand that people will have different opinions than mine. The company could get things back on track quite easily if they chose too do so,

The company needs to focus on stability not attempting to please people that want to give the grid a G rated makeover. I would argue  it's not entirely the company's fault. They respond to user feedback. It's the very vocal but minitory that keeps screaming for the grid to be "cleaned up" even though you have to be 18+ to be here. What did they think adult meant?

This is the way the world would be, A better place for you and me if everyone would just let everyone be.

Oh! I was wondering who was in charge here. I've been looking all over for you. Can we talk about this software you chose for your forum?

Some people simply seem to have issues with authority and to take the fact that Linden Lab choose to stay out of residents' way in forums such as these as license to act entitled and abusive. I honestly have a little less respect for Linden Lab because they do not attempt to police some of the frequently empty-headed and resource-wasting foolishness I see on the General forum, which honestly seems worse since the changeover. Surely they must realize that, if anything makes them look bad, it's this.

People at my university have asked about using Second Life as an educational platform, and I've discouraged them from doing so. Not because there's anything really wrong with the software Linden Lab has under development or with their policies (other than their being too tolerant), but because some of the most vocal and visible users of the software regularly do the on-line equivalent of urinating in public and defending it as making the flowers grow. If I were LL, I'd dump this particular forum in a heartbeat and tell people to go play out their control/nymphomania/hysteria games elsewhere.

Linden Lab staff members are of course individuals, each with their own distinct personalities and behavioral characteristics, just as Second Life residents are, but taken as a whole, one can rest assured that Linden Lab staff members are never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna  run around and desert you. Further, they are never gonna make you cry, never gonna  say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.

No, I wassimply pointing our that "I was only following orders" had  been used and failed as a defence argument before, I am sure it has been used countless time before and since then
