LGG's Emergence viewer.  It is Emerald, except without the boggy, slow interface and the malware.

Shocking, I know.  Makes you wonder what they put in Emerald that made it run so badly.

Why preempt the action?

I'm gonna sit back and watch the rampant rumormill tear it's collective hair out, hollering about this or that fact over the whole thing. When you boil it down to the bare facts of the way people behave, you can say that all the viewers and LL are just as bad as the tobacco industry. I myself thought I was gonna quit when they hit 2 dollars a pack... but nooooooo. That didn't happen, and I'm sticking with emerald until the last gasp, for the same reason: I'm a creature of habit. I'm not gonna fret and freak out before all the facts roll in, and the decisions are made.

Calm down people, take a deep breath (or a satisfactory shallow one if you smoke) and just let this run it's course to the end before trying to count the bodies...

Hi...I was using Emerald (and  loved it) but I started having major Crash issues and had to give it  up.  I had to switch to V2.  Now there is Phoenix and it sounds like  something I would prefer using.  But I have heard rumors that once you  use V2 and switch (at the time to Emerald) back to a third party viewer  that you can loose inventory items.

Does anyone know if this is  true?  As bad as I want to switch,  I dont want to loose valuable  inventory.  I want to change for the features I grew to like in Emerald  that Phoenix now

You won't actually lose items but you may well find half of them don't load if V2 and (as far as I know) any 1.23 viewer share the same local cache on your PC.

Fortunately, there's a very easy work-round.   Simply change the cache location for Phoenix by going to Edit Preferences Network before you actually log in for the first time, and set it somewhere different .. make a new folder called PhoenixCache in My Documents, for example.   OK that, close the viewer, and then start it again and log in this time.

In general, it's a good idea to have different cache locations for each different viewer you use.

If you do this, no problem.. I am always switching between viewers because I need to see how the scripted stuff I make works in different viewers, and I don't have any problems with missing inventory.

I was using the V2Dev viewer for about 3 weeks and then switched to Phoenix (I was test driving viewers).

I did have to wait for about a quarter of an hour while my inventory was 'fetched'. If I lost any inventory, I haven't noticed, which means I haven't lost anything or what was lost I never use anyway.

Phoenix has all of the features that Emerald had and has some small improvements on them.

Of personal note, I found that Phoenix attaches items/clothing extremely fast, completes teleports the fastest I've ever seen and rezzes/draws the fastest I've ever seen as well. It also has the highest FPS I have ever had.

I tried ALL of the approved viewers but none of them suited my needs as well as Emerald so sort of went back to Emerald lol.  Using the reborn Emergence and Phoenix

People interested in new viewers might want to take a look at the thread Chalice's list of SL Clients over at SLU, which discusses TPVs, both ones on the list and TOS-compliant ones that aren't.
