Introducing SL Go from OnLive

Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, 5:45:56 PM (UTC)

Well, hmm. I saw this original post on March 5th with the rest of you.

As a long time SL user since 2006; I have to say I knew this pricing would not fly

with most of you. I knew it was only a matter of time before they changed their pricing.

While the idea of a reoccuring hourly charge is a great potential for income it might be

a bit of over zealous creationist ideal. No doubt is it a great tool for those of us in cafes

and on the road. However, that price will not fly. Glad to see the price has now come

down to earth at an unlimited plan at $9.95 a month. Which is much more do-able.

I think it's a great thing what they have done, just hope they can get past the shock

that everyone saw when they realized it was $2 per hour!

What are your opinions on SL® GO? Have you tried it yet?

I actually saw someone post where it will be 9.95 unlimited. If so, sure I would do it. Otherwise it reminds me of the old AOL rates.

well $10 a month isn't so bad since a lot of the users of SL put in at least 20++++ hours a month.

So then its more like 50c an hour if you just do 20 hours :P Though I have a lot of friends who average 4+ hours a day which makes it 4x30= 120 Hours

10/120 = .08c an hour..

So I guess it depends how you look at it.
I would love to have something I could bring to my endlessly boring job. Too bad I only have a phone for my text viewer ;P

Here is the thing, I went through the sign up process you have to give a credit card for billing which I did I created an account then went to google play to download the app and its not supported on my ipad. So, no.. I will not be using it. Other wise yes, it is 9.95 mo unlimited.

So, even if I wanted to, my old ipad isnt able to. Im not going to buy another pad because I am a desktop person... anyhow. Its not 2.00 an hour its 1.00 and hour.

Actually, I am currently installing for my android phone so, I will let you know

Well, the program is a bit of a mess on my phone, its beta apparently also, I cant log in and the keypad wont go away unless I go back to main menu and start over and now I have a completly black screen and can not stop the program.. I advise not to install it. (the little X button doesnt work)

Tarina, no iPad, old or new, supports Android Apps from the Google Play store. Perhaps OnLive will release an iOS version of the app before they go out of business again.

It would be pretty interesting if it ran on the Chromecast.

Actually, the $9.95/mo unlimited is interesting anyway. If SL were my only use of heavy 3D graphics, I'd say that price is pretty competitive with the depreciation on a decent graphics card.

So, never mind "on the road," I might well lease my graphics from the cloud instead of buying a noisy, heat-dissipating pile of semiconductors to grow ever more worthless under my desk.

Dammit, it was perfect when it was only me on there at $2 per hour, now all the riff raff and pond life are turning up!  Why do LL go out of their way to piss off us SL users?  It's enough to make me glad I didn't buy Premium or land!

Haha. Yes. I love reading your comments on this app.

After all this is where the most important views are from. The daily users.

With that said, it's really nice that they are trying to help SL make the transition to

tablets and mobile media devices. Even better would be a move to Chromecast,

Roku box, Amazon Fire box, Media TVs, and others. For SL to survive this next

technology shift this is a good thing. Plus, in the end; as SL knows; it might bring

more users and potential customers to the grid. Onlive has great advertising and

graphics. They have been most def doing their homework and looking forward

into this tech shift. Now if they can just get the full version of photoshop to work

on iOS. I would be laptop, desktop free. Well, except for my mesh modeling of

JCNY products! Gotta love new tech.

all the best,

JD Hansen, JCNY CEO.

Ya I read that after. (I am a tablet idiot) But i gotta say. It locked up my galaxy and I had to reboot it, I never logged on and I got a message from them that my 20 minutes were up and I needed to buy more credits.. SO, I sent the email on their contact page to let them know I never even loged on and.. the mail gave an error ... there was a problem sending your email. LOL

I get it thats its all beta but.. dang... firstly why you gotta give CC info if its just a trial?? Anyhow I will be watching my bank transactions like a hawk.  I swear to god if they bill my credit card I am going to be one upset person. Anyway, to me its not even something I probably will use. But I was sure willing to try. I am a confirmed desktop person.  I have a laptop but I dont turn it on unless I do a tandom with youtube tutorials in blender or photoshop going.. (It cant run second life)

Gawd nothing works on this stupid ipad! Oh wait I had to edit becuase brighthouse TV app works well on it and the sims and ...

 Also, there is this>

Mac®

Follow the on-screen instructions once installation begins. At least OSX Leopard is recommended.

Install for OSX

Once you install the application, launch it from your applications folder. The application is called OnLive. It will launch the OnLive Game Service, and you will find SL Go in the My Games folder.

Why pay $9.95 per month when Lumiya is $2.95 for a lifetime?

The speed and hi rez nature of it is one reason.

BUT the thing should come with a big caveat.

You are logging into a remote desktop - and launching SL from there. This means that every keystroke you make is visible to their servers, AND every movement of the mouse. It is possible someone could sit at a terminal and note that your mouse was resting on that other avatar for 53.72 seconds, and that you typed "HawtBabes" into the password field of SL, with an avatar name of "YetAnotherBabyGirlLikeTheOther5000" yet your credit card belongs to "Ed Jones" at 123 A street, Some City, Tx, zip-code and you're a Baptist preacher in RL but a shemale escort for furries in SL.
